Hullo, I have many few questions and I hope you guys can help me answer: What is Victoria and how come so many things are for V3 or V2? When I download some objects, figures and poses, most of the files cannot be read and some of them have exclamation marks (!!) before them, why? Finally, how do you create clothing? Thank you all so much for any help! :) I really cannot wait to start!

- Victoria is a mesh sold at DAZ. There are 3 flavors: Victoria 1 (also called Vicki, Vic, V1, etc.), Victoria 2 (V2, etc.), and Victoria 3. Victoria 2 uses the same mesh as Victoria 1 but has a lot more morphs. (I.e. it is much easier to customize how V2 looks compared to V1.) Victoria 3 is a different mesh which is even more customizable, but can be a little tricky to use at first if you're utterly brand new to Poser. There are a lot more freebies still for V1/V2, but most people are making things for V3 now. Objects and textures made for V1/V2 will not work for V3 and vice versa. The Victoria series is very popular because the meshes are a large step up from the default characters in Poser 4. (And a big step up from the characters in Poser 5, in my opinion, although you'll hear arguments on that.) 2) What version of Poser do you have? Certain files, like dynamic cloth for Poser 5 will not work in Poser 4 at all. If you have Poser 4, make sure you have the latest update, which will make it Poser 4.03. In fact, just go the the Curious Labs site - www.curiouslabs.com and check to see if you need to update your Poser regardless of which one you have. All 3 current verions, Poser 4, Poser Pro Pack, and Poser 5 have service releases. Many files are made listing 4.03 as the lowest acceptable version. If you have Poser 3, many things here will not work - that version of Poser is too old to handle most of what you'll see on this site. Otherwise, I'd need more information to help with that question. The ! marks are simply to move those folders to the top of the folder list. Personally, that drives me nuts. I use Windows Explorer to rename the folders immediately. 3) That takes a lot of time to master. You need an outside modelling program. There are several tutorials out there on how to do this, but unless you have experience in other 3D software, I'd strongly advise taking some time to get the basics of Poser before going for the really advanced stuff, such as Poserizing clothing made in other modelling programs. Again, Poser can not really make clothing. In general, there are tons of tutorials out there. I have a bunch on my site: wwww.fallencity.net which might be of use. There's a large database of tutorials here and a bunch in the Tutorial Arcana at www.daz3d.com. Cheers!

Are you on a PC or a Mac? Most of the files out there are formatted for the PC, but can be adapted with MartinC's Maconverter utility.

I am using Windows. And thank you so much, Cresent. :)

The correct term for us is Poser Addict ;) When you buy from Daz they give you access to both formats of the files, but you only need to download the one that's for your machine : exe=PC sit=Mac. I hope you're very rich cause you'll be spending like crazy once the addiction really hits you ;)

"some of them have exclamation marks (!!) before them, why?" Because their creators want these files to come on top of your list in the explorer or in Poser libraries list. Some put more than one in order to get on top of all the list, including the exclamation marked ones. So far, in my Runtime's textures files, Galana leads with 3 "!" in a row. I guess that, by 2010, most files will begin with 10 "!"...

If it's pose folders there's no real reason why you can't rename the folders, apart from the folder "!Daz" that one has to stay exactly as it is or all hell will break loose.

If you download a freebie for a thing you do not have it probably will NOT work in your program. IE: if you get a victoria1 character and try to load it, but do not HAVE Victoria1, poser will give you an error. Likewise with many other things. passes the Old Fart's Advice Pipe to the next in line Lyrra
