Depends on what kind of character you like. Sixius has some of the best "out there"/weird character models, while some of the Japanese sites have shown how much can be done with MayaDoll.

Fluff! No competitors ;o) Or did you mean HUMAN models?! Maya Doll is great for a freebie and has lots of clothes, something Sara, another great freebie lacks.
