Hey i was wondering if it is custom here to open groups of photographers who want to focus on certain aspects of photography and even would enter contests considering their field of choice. I was wanting to open up a group which focuses mainly on abstract architecture, and even experimental photography in general, holding our own contests etc.. Is there anything i should know about setting up a group here or if it is in fact allowed? I'd appreciate all advice and suggestions. Thanks in advance Peace Chris

I know they do that sort of thing at Deviant Art....but... I am pretty sure that this would be frowned upon here as they prefer to keep one person per membership account... I'm more than happy to ask for you.... and I will let you know.

Ok, i was just thinking it might be something to think about. I've been wanting to get more active here and meet more people, which might be done easier if there were groups of people brought together by more focused interest. Thanks for the support and for helping find out more Best Regards Chris

hmm... not sure something like this would really need a "group account". Perhaps more along the lines of a "sub-forum" where specific topics would be covered? Maybe an update of the categories used in the Gallery? 'osity seems to add new Forums all the time, if there is a demonstrated interest. Or, maybe something as simple as a keyword tag in the regular Forum to make searching easier. Guess if a Member was REALLY interested in running something like this, it could be managed by the member on his/her homepage. Of course, Home Pages aren't patrolled regularly by the Mods, so it would place some TOS responsibility on the page owner. Just idle thoughts.

Got an answer.... the consensus was that the sharing of a single account by a group of people is definitely a no-go. So while forming a group in that manner is something you couldn't do, as Misha has suggested there may be other ways to manage a group if you were really wanting to do so... Although at the moment I'm hard pressed to find anything that would be very simple. As Misha has said they do sometimes add forums, sub-forums? well that I've never seen in the long time that I've been here, and somehow suspect would not be forthcoming very quickly... again there does need to be an enthusiastic interest for things to be added... The Catgories in the gallery are by Software (which makes sense, since this is a 3D/CGI website for the most part), with a couple of exceptions... 2D and Photography, Mixed Medium (maybe a couple of others) which are not software specific... the genre imho are pretty thorough, and do cover photographic needs... Remember that as long as it pertains to photography it's welcome here, so there is no reason why you couldn't try to drum up discussions on certain topics here in the forum, or even try to get an unofficial challenges of some sort going (unofficial means: very unofficial..the moderators are not involved in handling or running it) as long as is doesn't interfere with the way we handle the forum on a day to day basis, it should be fine.... however we are a very varied group with lots of different interests, so I couldn't guarentee what sort of response you'd get... I really think it's a wonderful idea and I hope I'm not discouraging you.. I'm just trying to be realistic here... Maybe you can come up with something that will work without too much difficulty... You can always IM if you have any other questions.....
