Hello, I use poser 5 for creating scenes and i render them in vue 4. I would like to upgrade to something else. I would like something with a beter link to poser, so that i dont have to load the entire poser scene when i change some poses in poser and a bettter render engine (global light) and a possebillity to do some good modelling. Considering carrara 3with poser transposer or perhaps maya (have to save money do for a couple of months). Please advice me on this. Thanks. Michel

I'm very happy with Carraras rendering. I'm not a fan of their modeling. A lot of us don't like the interface. Carrara is a fun app, though. Some people love the improved vertex modeling in Carrara 3.0. Maybe I should give it more of a chance. Maya is a great app, of course, but the workflow is pretty slow for most of us hobbyists. People who do it for a living might feel differently. I don't think you'll have the interoperability between Maya and Poser that you will between Carrara and Poser via Transposer. Might be some Maya/Poser plug-ins, though. I don't know.

Lightwave; and if you get seriously interested in Lightwave check out the Greenbriar plug ins

For modeling Lightwave can't be beat, pretty good rendering engine, and since version 8 even more character animation features, great bang for the buck if you are looking into a professionnal app.

I'd love to get Lightwave, but two grand plus after plug-ins and the such is hard to swallow for us hobbyists ;)

Thanks for the many replies. Carrara 3.0 seems to have a good rendering engine. Is transposer quick, apparantly when you change something in poser 5 the change is automatically adapted in carrara. Is this a slow proces or is it quick, does it thake more than 60 seconds? Is the rendering a lot better than the vue rendering; objects always seem to be not in touch with the groundplane in vue. And finally if carrara is not so good for modelling what would you advice me as a good modeller that can work easily with poser. Thanks you all.

yeah two grand is a lot, but then how much do us Poser addict drop at the various stores over the course of a year or two :-( . Actually I started making poser clothing partly to pay for my Lightwave upgrades.

Lightwave. If you're in a position to consider Maya then it's certainly worth the time to look into Lightwave. Huge value for what's basically a mid-priced app. Hey Movida; how you likin' them plugs? Great investment :)

krimpr: I'm sending Poser5 to the outer limits and will use Poser 4 ProPak and Lightwave with the Greenbriar Plugs - have to go back and get the animation plug (forgot it the 1st time) I decided Doc Holliday and Big Nose Kate deserved to render in Lightwave :)
