Attached Link: Simple UV-mapper tutorial

Hey everyone, I just published a very simple mini tutorial for how to UV-map and texture your models. It's not rocket science but I wrote it because I've been receiving questions about this matter. I hope it will be useful for some. http://www.colacola.se/howto_1.asp?pic=28

almost simple enough for even me to understand..;) I've always been stuck on the 'now open up Photoshop'..and then what to do with the 'textured' unit..;) Hafta try this at home..it may not be rocket science..but I notice you're using a rocket as the model..;)

Thanks for this, Bazze. I think I`m beginning to understand mapping now but I have a couple of questions if I may. I was ok until we got to the Photoshop shot. I can understand the colouring book analogy but it seems to me the stripe and skull are half on the right wing and half on the engine cowl in this example yet the rendered model shows the skull on the left wing. Did I miss something? One other possibly stupid question. The template is obviously plan view. How do you texture the underside?

bazze posted Mon, 07 June 2004 at 8:31 AM

Sambucus -> yes the skull is on the left wing because I mirrored the texture. I should have mentioned this. The texture & template is actually doulbe the size (horizontally) but I left out the underside in the tut. I've updated the tut with this image now:

Very nicely done Bazze! I think this will help a lot of folks here, myself included, to understand this arcane art a bit better. Thanks!
