Why do you like photography? Why do you like taking pictures? Just wondering. Johannah

We have a saying over at another board "Topicstarter starts". I.E. why don't you give your reasons :P To be honest, I can't really pinpoint what excites me about taking pictures. It just does. Just trying to capture a moment I guess.

Okay, my reason for like taking pictures is...like you said capturing the moment and being able to make someone see what I see or being able to change the way they see something by a simple picture.

Communication. I like the challenge of telling a story or presenting a mood with a still image. I also like the control (or the challenge of achieving the control) of presenting exactly what I want portrayed. Now, when I FIRST got into photography - sixth grade - I had a great teacher who built a darkroom in the back of the class, and our whole class built pinhole cameras and learned the process of developing our images - it was like magic! I guess I've been hooked ever since.

Because it can capture a moment in time in a way that is unlike how our own eyes ever see things. Timed exposures that show the underlying beauty of a city at night. Macro shots taht show us detail we don't normally focus on. Abstracts that show us the world and the things in it in a way we never look at things. And because through photography, I can sometimes show other people the world through my eyes. It's also because I have no real choice in using a camera. I just -have- to. Sometimes while standing downtown at 2am or I'm getting up to go photograph something after I just had a 14 hour shift at work and only 2 hours sleep and I think "What the hell are you doing? Just go back home and go to bed." But then that drive to photograph just takes over and I realize I had no real choice in the matter. :) -=>Donald

Much like Donald.... I have to. It's an obsession, it's my therapy, it's who I am, it's the way I express myself.
I am, therefore I create.......

Ahhhh I missed this one! I agree with both Donald and Michelle. Photography is my passion, it also is a positive redirection from some very unhappy times for me. I had to find an outlet... and this just happens to be it! It will be a part of me til the day they scatter my ashes in the ocean...

For me its a little of all the above reasons. I love telling a story. Its part of a passion to enjoy and share life. Its therapy for oneself. Its imagination and discovering what one can do. Sometimes its just a driving and overwhelming force to see through differnet eyes. I little bit of everything.
