Hi All. The "group" command in the set-up room does a poor job at guessing. It's like those auto-tune buttons on car radios; good for finding the nearest top-40 station but really poor at helping you tune in to the stations you want to listen to. You would be much better off grouping manually, and rigging manually. The tools are there. The tutorials are available on-line -- many of them at Renderosity either in the tutorials section or referenced in older posts in this forum and others. One thing; in the opinion of most people "slicing the mesh" within Poser itself is a fool's game. Your modelling application is likely to be a better choice. Use Poser for adjusting the joint centers and other parameters only.

do your grouping in your modeller. if you only can assign material groups in your modeller...run it through uvmapper and assign those material groups to plain groups. then, download phibuilder....from roy riggs...you can search for it in poser forum. use that to make your skelegon "tree" for poser and import into poser by importing hierarchy file. should all then work fine for you.

Thanks for taking the time to help me out with the advice guys, special thanks to poppi,I did it that way with uv mapper pro that i bought and made a phi file and it was easy from there just joints and rotation orders to setup which i learned about from a gingerbread man tutorial. http://www.jabberdoggy.com/Tutorials/Gingerbread/GBMatrix.html incase anyone else was interested and reading this post. by the way here is that toy elephant finished/test render in cinema 4d.needs tusks and so on but i was just mucking about. cheers again lads. khall

Yeah poppi working with the phi files and building a hiarchy tree/setup is awesom, thanks to all the good info and help from this site i can make this guy poseable soon as i made him a year ago but never felt confident to poserize him as i tried once or twice and the mesh split all over the er..joint ; ) now i just gotta work tonight then im off for a few days so ill be updating my rigging skills from now on and hope to add sonic and the elephant to freestuff (Thanks about the elephant its my cats chewtoy in real life, and now it sure dont look too much like an elephant thats for sure.) all the best and cheers. khall
