A couple of years ago Viewpoint.Com was a major 3D model company, and down the street (somewhat) from Zygote. Then they were bought by Software Associates (a huge software company). Then I heard recently Viewpoint bought MetaCreations, or whatever is left of it. Now... Viewpoint's page no longer works. Any news???

I don't know theirnew URL, but I do know that their model prices have more than doubled since they merged with Meta.

It seems the site requires the latest Javascript.

It was Computer Associates (they made some use of Viewpoint in a monitoring tool called Unicenter TNG where you can have 3d machines flash red in 3D buildings, can zoom out all the way to the continent or in to an ethernet card - way cool). It was at their booth at CA's trade show I got hooked on this stuff. CA sold them to MetaCreations in July... new URL - http://www.viewpoint.com/intro/index.html name change announcement - http://www.viewpoint.com/company/g1b_detail.jsp?id=13 "Metastream Changes Company Name to Viewpoint Corporation". I can't find anything like the old free meshes download, but I remember getting bored checking it, since it never changed.

Hey, thanks for the information. It is really surprising to me that MetaCreations would buy Viewpoint from CA, and then turn around and call themselves Viewpoint. Also it is odd(to me) because most of Viewpoint's assets were high rez, expensive 3D models, not the kind of tiny type stuff that MetaStream seems to use. Frankly too, I would have thought that Viewpoint would have been the one to buy Poser (through CA) because that would best exploit their (Viewpoints) huge 3D model collection. Very puzzling corporate musical chairs...

They RAISED prices since Meta bought them? They were damn steep before, must be insane now.

$3000.00 for a VW new beettle model is more than insane, it is ridiculous!!!!! Before the merge that same model was $700.00 (still expensive but today's prices are out of their minds) I guess Meta wants to get back their invesion pretty fast. One good idea instead of paying those prices could be to buy a 3d Scanner instead of pay that kind of money for a model that it is not 100% acuarated. The lack of vision of Meta was showed here again, instead of going with the tendency to lower down the 3d industy prices, they took the contrary way increasing the prices. Well I guess we all know how meta likes to make the things, If not ask it to Bryce Poser and Carrara former employes teams.

Buy some really excellent models at Infografica (see link elsewhere on the Forum) They have a great VW beetle, VW Golf, and VW Van, and their prices are really cheap. Their CD collection is really a great value. MetaStream-Viewpoint's deal sure strikes me as strange and their model prices don't make any sense.
