I'm near to finish on this and learned a lot...Just got Firefly to work for the 1st time a few weeks ago. I need to finally understand map settings once and for all. I know I can quickly fix some of the trivia in post but I'd rather really get it in the dials. See the shadow abvoe the middle finger and how it diffuses at the edge? Now look on her chin. It's just way too crisp. I know shadow" dial will lighten the overall shadow, but what can diffuse the edge without lightening it? Do I back the light off and increase map or bias...? There's just too much turbulance on skin to have such sharp lines. Behind the jewels, too

This is the primary light and is doing some nice things in some places. Raytrace

The shadows look fine to me! The shadows only should defuse, the further away the object is from what it's casting on.

The shadow from the middle finger does that because the middle finger is not bent back to follow the face and because it moving into the shaded side of the face.

sirkrite I'd like to understand how to control the diffuse. That primary light is pretty close btw, about 3' virtual. Ever look at a studioMax render on a poser fig and how it really busts up the shadow into a blur. I guess that's what I mean. Thanks

Well you could try using a spotlight for lighting and set the "Angel End" to 160.

Just wondering - are that ray traced shadows? Only shadow maps can produce soft shadows in P5.
