Anubis, what kind of fire do you want to make? A campfire, a fire in a fireplace, a torchlight? A big fire as in an explosion?

a big fire as in an explosion. i make picture with mechs, and well some mechs can jump using jump jets, jump jets are kinda rocket exhausts, a lot of fire comes from it, but i can't make that fire look realistic

For an explosion I've had some success getting an explosion effect by creating a lumpy, slightly irregular terrain. Make it two sided Angle it towards the camera a little so its base isn't flat to the floor. Clip it so its edges arn't straight. Use the larva texture and then tweak the texture to get something that is brighter. Make it very slightly transparant and put some point lights inside it that are red. Hope this helps.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....

ahh yes alpha planes, that i hadnt come up with that. btw is it possible to do it in paint shop pro?

You can make realistic fire in PSP using layers and Hue/Saturation changes...altho Im not sure how one would create an explosion.

Should be possible to create it in paint shop pro, you can get 32 bit tga files int with alpha planes. Don't ask me how to create an explosion or so, I'm not really a paint shop pro user. There may be tutorials around for such a thing.

Not sure if this will do what you are wanting, but this tutorial teaches you to make some of the most realistic fire effects I have seen.. {It also can be done in PSP, using the same techniques}After creating your explosion, then use the image as an alpha plane and voila...{we hope} ;)
Hope this helps :)

Instead of applying this mat. file to the fern plant, create a sphere made up of about 30 or so fir trees, with the bases of the trunks meeting at the center of the sphere.
Next, go to display materials, and change the trunk and leaf materials to the explosive fern mat.
Group these trees, and call the group trees.
Now create a point light, placing it at the center of the trees group, giving it the following settings:
Set the color as orange.
The Softness as 0.10
The Power at 150
Set overall Intensity at 100%
Click off the Ring setting
Under Random Streaks set:
Intensity to 80%
Amount to 400
Sharpness 100%
Go back to layers, and select both the trees group and the point light, and group
them, calling this new group My Explosion 1.
Save this group as an object in your object folders for later use.
Don't try to render this in a full scene, since it will take too long to render, instead...
Go to the tutorial I placed in this forum on clipping alpha planes in Volumetric atmospheres, and use it to create and alpha plane of your explosion, rather than a tree. You may have to play with the mat editor settings some.
http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12368&Form.ShowMessage=1824345
Add a new point light to the center of the plane, and adjust the lens flare. Save this as a prop, and there you go.

though that fire looks awesome, but i am more looking like this effect, look at the link. it needs to be more elongated(or however you spell that, you know, it needs to be thinner and longer). is it possible with that aswel?regaltwo posted Wed, 30 June 2004 at 4:01 PM
No, I don't think so. I think what you are looking for is less an explosion than a rocket blast. I would play with the campfire tutorial at Arcana, perhaps combining it with a volumetric light you've added dust to. http://arcana.daz3d.com/index.php?id=42

This is an interesting problem. Anubis, here are three versions of a jet blast object for you that might serve your needs. (And for anyone else who wants them.) The problem with fire and blasts are that they are best represented with particles - not something easily modeled and something that always has relatively high polygon counts. Here, I generated some particles in a professional program called Realflow, then flattened them so that they would catch light fairly well. I tapered them into a reasonable shape, and finally, "thinned" the first one (blast1) into two versions with increasingly smaller polygon counts. I "opened up" the top end a little to allow you to position lights in a realistic manner. These are now "truespace" objects, but they'll import into Vue just fine! Now, you can simply apply a colored glass (the yellow and red mix of colors) material in them to get reasonable results. Also, you can now light them up any way your scene requires to get some very interesting results. The smallest object is about 9,000 polygons - it's probably best. You can re-scale this in any way you like to make it long or short or big or little. So, Anubis, if you find these useful, can you post a picture here for us so that we can see if these work for you?_Anubis_ posted Thu, 01 July 2004 at 7:35 AM
they are good, very good but still not what i look for. it needs to be fuller, look at the picture i atashed early, here is the link again, it needs to look a little like that http://www.world-of-bancha.de/stone/cougar.htm adn dont worry about poly's. the models that i use have over the 50.000 polys. the mech in my lates piccy(http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=696907&Start=1&Artist=%5FAnubis%5F&ByArtist=Yes) has more then 100.000 polygons. so if you could make them more compacter, then i would love them. here is an other link of how it should look like http://www.world-of-bancha.de/stone/no_mercy.htm . if you can make me something that looks similair to this(the smoke ofcourse not, i can do that myself(i hope)), then i will be a very very happy man, and i will share all my piccy's with you then
forester posted Thu, 01 July 2004 at 10:37 AM
OK, I'll make another set tonight, when I get home. Anubis, you can make them more compact yourself, of course. Just change the X and the Y sizes to draw them in more closely, (squeeze them together, or in technical terms, "re-scale" them) and then if you need them to be fuller, just make several copies and stack them on top of each other. But I'll still make you another set to try to come closer to that picture.

Sorry about the delay, Anubis. Work took longer than expected (or wanted). I've got another one ready for you. Why don't you send your e-mail addy to me at sprucefir@earthlink.net, and we'll take this offline. I'll send you the next one as soon as I hear from you.
