Is there a withc hat that looks like this.

Little_Dragon posted Mon, 28 June 2004 at 7:30 PM

Several.

DAZ offered one as a freebie back during the Lord of the Rings craze; it's now tucked away in the Platinum Club as the "M3 Magical Morphing Hat". Blondie9999 has a similar product called "HatsGalore Morphing Hat", which even includes the feathers.

Traveler has a freebie called "RDNA Wizards Hat" in the free stuff at RunTime DNA.

akura_ posted Mon, 28 June 2004 at 7:59 PM

I looked at them. THe one for M3 is almost a purfic match if it only had the feathers added as a prop. Oh before I forget do they come with fit to pose so I can use them with other characters.

Cyhiraeth posted Mon, 28 June 2004 at 8:38 PM

I'm sure you can use it with anybody with just a little tweaking and scaling. ;-)

there is a freebie Morphing hat at Runtimedna.

Here's a set of feathers with some morphs you can add to make the hat. The feathers are not black but you can do a search on Google and find a black one (template included) {only 385K}

akura_ posted Tue, 29 June 2004 at 6:07 PM

Does the RDNA Wizards Hat have a texture template that I can make My own textures for it.

I'm pretty sure they do come with their own template, RDNA is pretty good at that stuff. If not you can always shoot one out with the free version of UVMapper - no mapping talent required, just load-n-save ;p

akura_ posted Wed, 30 June 2004 at 11:16 AM

the RDNA Wizards Hat didn't come with an object file but still loads.

igohigh posted Wed, 30 June 2004 at 5:48 PM

Just load the hat and drop it to the floor and center it's XYZ to "0", then export it out as an OBJ being sure to check all the boxes EXCEPT the bottom two. Then you can load that OBJ into UVMapper and save out a template ;p

igohigh posted Wed, 30 June 2004 at 6:11 PM

Here you go, had to take a moment and find it myself. Scale the template up larger if you want to do hi-rez texturing.

igohigh posted Wed, 30 June 2004 at 6:21 PM

Just an idea: If you want a nice Hat Band for it like in the picture you posted then just load up the OBJ in UVMapper and select the parts I have shown X'ed out in Blue here. Then with the remaining strip of red ("Hat") select it and click TOOLS->ASSIGN->MATERIALS and name it 'HatBand'. Then once back in Poser just import the new HatBand and scale it up about %.5~%1 and Abra Cadabra, instant HatBand that fits like a glove ;p **sorry I can't do this part for you cuz that would be breaking the rules of transfering files, but you can do it, UVMapper is FUN!

Ooops, forgot the diagram!

akura_ posted Thu, 01 July 2004 at 4:28 PM

I found the obj file and when I loaded it in UV Mapper Pro, it gave me the default template. How do I make a hat band with this.

igohigh posted Thu, 01 July 2004 at 10:45 PM

That's an ODD template! Just 'which' hat are you trying to use?? I grabbed the RDNA Morphing Hat by Colm and it's template came out as shown in my post above. With what you are showing it looks like you'll have to map it or perhaps..?? Let me know just which hat you are trying to use and maybe there is still hope...

igohigh posted Thu, 01 July 2004 at 10:48 PM

Oh, to Delete parts in UVMapper you just use the Marque tool (or any of the selection tools) and select the part(s) you want to delete then click 'SELECT->DELETE'. At least I'm pretty sure you can do it with the "classic" version of UVM, I could be wrong as I only have the Pro version loaded these days....

RDNA Wizards Hat

igohigh posted Fri, 02 July 2004 at 1:39 AM

OOOOhhhhhh! Wow, I forgot all about that one! That was one of my FAVORITES!! Sorry I've been negleting my Mike2 folders lately... OK, Here is a simple seam guide and a suggested area for the Hat Band. Sorry I am no SnowSultan but then I don't have a harem like he does either ; I marked where dead center front and back are too. Hope this helps. If you want to make a Hat Band just seleted to parts above and below the area you want to keep and then hit SELECT->DELETE and you will be left with jus the 'hat band' section to import back into Poser and parent onto the original hat, then increase the size by about %1 or %1.5 You can make it as wide or narrow as you want in UVMapper.

igohigh posted Fri, 02 July 2004 at 1:40 AM

Here is how it looks aligned on the hat..

igohigh posted Fri, 02 July 2004 at 1:44 AM

FYI: How I did this. Just lay out some colored lines on separate layers in Photoshop, open up Poser and render, adjust (move) lines, render again...repeat untill you have the mark points your looking for. But then SnowSultan of course has all kinds of much more sophisticated technical gagets and a crew of scientists to do his ;)

akura_ posted Fri, 02 July 2004 at 10:04 AM

I got the hat band made, now how do you import it back into Poser without over writing the original obj. My copy has the function "Export UVs" disabled. its the free version.

You shouldn't need the UVs as that's if you wish to import it into another mesh and other 'stuff' I don't know much about either. To import your new hatband into Poser just click FILE->IMPORT and choose the 'Obj' selection. Be Sure to UNCHECK the option that says "Percent Size" or it will import as a GIANT hat band!. It will not 'overwrite' anything in your Poser scene but just import a new Prop item. Then just move it over your existing hat and align it (I find it easiest to texture it a bright RED for easy visual at this point). You can use the original template for painting your new hat band or from UVMapper save out just the 'band' if you wanted to make the texture separate. Don't forget to Enlarge your hatband or it will dissapear 'into' the hat as it is now an exact duplicate of that 'section' of the hat!!

igohigh posted Fri, 02 July 2004 at 1:19 PM

Note: If you wanted to go even further with your new hat band you could load it into Anim8or or Wings3D (both free, Anim8or is easier and smaller but Wings3D is better) and push a few verticals around to at 'shape' and 'character' to your new hat band before importing to Poser too. I think at this point your hat band is flat in depth, your could also use the SHELL command in Anim8or and give it thickness then it would be easier to match to the hat too ;p

I don't have a version that lets me export UVs, what now.

igohigh posted Sat, 03 July 2004 at 2:25 PM

You don't need the UVs for what your doing. UVs are if you want to import the same UV (u/v corrdinants) into another obj. For making the hat band you only need Export the OBJ and if desired the Texture Map, both Classic and Pro will do those.

igohigh posted Sat, 03 July 2004 at 2:39 PM

Here is an example I just did. In UVMapper I deleted the areas above and below the red mark I showed in above template and then clicked TOOLS->ASIGN->MATERIALS and named it "Band". Then Exported the Obj out renaming it "HatBand" (**Very Imortant to Re-Name it!**). Then in Poser I clicked FILE->IMPORT->OBJ and **Un-Check** the boxes. The I brought in the original hat CR2 and dropped it to the floor (makes it easier to position the band. I scaled the band Up to %106 and positioned it on the hat. At this point you could save the Hat band to the Props Library as a 'Smart Prop' so you can clear the scene and reload the CR2 hat on the character's head and when you load your new prop it will auto position itself on the hat. Or just save the hat with the band pre-parented back into your character library with a NEW name (like WizHat-2). We'll get you there, let me know if I was unclear about anything ;p
