I have Poser Pro and I made a Pz3 file , I opened it in Daz studio , Exported it to Bryce5 as the instructions say, all the texture of the figure and props transfer great, when opened in Bryce, but not the textures on the head of the figure. The head stays white with no texture. I have tried the MayaDoll figure as well as the Vicky 1 and 2. The same thing, no texture on the head. If anyone else has tried this please let me know or if you know what I am doing wrong. What I am saying is that the head (face) textures do not transfer. many thanks ....skee

Transparency thus far has been an issue from the reports I've read. I have not heard of the actual head textures not transferring -- unless, perhaps, you have several textures applied to them (for example, a skin, then an eye makeup, a bump, and a transparency, etc). the mtl file format that carries that info over is sorta limited as it can only transfer a certain number of texturing elements.

thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)

I hope that the image I am trying to send here works. This is what I am getting. Thanks ynsaen for the reply.

Same thing for me. I had to texture the hair in Bryce or try to import the jpg texture directly in Bryce.

Just a question: I read mtl. Does this mean that the export plugin exports .obj files?

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

Yes, Daz studio reads the Pz3 file and exports it all as a bryce file. It's real cool if you can get it to work. skee

Would you mind trying my export script? This should create Bryce compatible OBJs directly from Poser, maybe that works for you?

I thought it was supposed to be easy, just pull it in then export it and then bring it into Bryce? Marque

Am I wrong or does the DAZ site say "Turbo Import for Bryce 5 BETA" ? If it's a beta, then it could explain why it doesn't work perfectly. Another explanation could be that since MayaDoll is not a Daz product, they don't feel compelled to support it. Also, did anyone try to import figures with magnets ? Since magnets don't work in DAZ studio, I guess it might be an issue ?

Spawn all the magnets before importing into DS. The transmap issue, Bryce won't read PNG's. That is, the copy bought through Daz. The fix mailed to me today, try logging in as the Administrator, just got the email so I haven't tried it yet. Another thing I found is open the mtl and check the tex reference is right. You can edit the mtl. That is how I've been getting my transmaps to work till I had heard from Daz. You can do the same with textures.

FWIW...DAZ offered these tips in the PC newsletter mailed out today. Apparently, a lot of people are having problems.

Poser -> Bryce transparency maps:

If the transparency maps are not being imported/applied correctly in Bryce 5 when using the Turbo Import plug-in, there may be a couple of reasons why this is happening:

Tashar59 posted Tue, 29 June 2004 at 10:27 PM

But they still have not mentioned why Bryce won't read PNG's, which is the transmap. That is, the copy bought from them, and one of the biggest complaints. It's not even recognized in the browser. I bought the Lo bandwidth, maybe something is missing when they split it up. Yes, everything is in it's proper place, the Png's are made right too, all my other programs can read it. Been working on this problem before weekend.

I hope this does not get buried in the messages. I have found that when the texture for the head in Bryce is imported , the texture is only gray scale, No color. If I load the head texture manually it will work. This is true for vicky figure as well as maya doll figure. The anime mayadoll characters do not have this problem when exported from daz, and then imported to bryce. Strange how only some characters work and some don't. skee

That is odd. You'd think it would work with DAZ's own characters.

If Bryce won't read PNGs, then you need to install Quicktime. For the texture not applying to the Maya Doll's head ... not sure what is happening here. It's actually loading the texture into the middle channel instead of the first one. In the mtl file, it has the correct code: map_Kd /Maps/mayahead01tx32241.jpg I'll keep working on it to see if I can figure out why this is happening. By the way, if you use two copies of a figure, and they both use the same textures, and you import them as one OBJ into Bryce, the second figure may not have the textures applied to it. If not, check to see if the original OBJ has spaces in the filename. Check the link above for the entire posting on it.
