getting an error message when importing avi into poser5. Its say its not a valid AVI but it is an avi . Is ther a certain type of avi it has to be ,like differnt fps or something?

My second question is when using an avi in the material room what is the formula for useing avi in part of .obj or 3ds. Like if i had a TV and wanted to put an avi into the screen of the tv obj ,or 3ds? After i have assigned the screen a material ,whats the formula to use an avi as a video screen inside of an animation set?

It is probably the codec used to compress the avi that is at fault it wont be the fps some programs don`t like the divx codecs. I am not sure about your second question but I would like to know the answer.

Not sure what you mean but here is some info.

If your .avi is originally at 25 fps, then the animation you are making must have the setting of 25 fps under the make movie options, then the .avi will play back at the correct speed.

The surface that you are going to use the .avi on must be as close to the aspect ratio of your .avi as possible. If your .avi is 4:3 (TV aspect ratio), then try to get the screen size of your model to also be roughly 4:3 in ratio of size.

When mapping the screen, use planar mapping in UV Mapper and select "don't split". That way your avi only renders on one surface.

If you were asking how to apply .avi:
At diffuse colour, select new node, image map, movie, and browse to find your .avi. It is best to use uncompressed .avi for textures. Even though the file size is large, it is the best. Compressed .avi can cause some funny effects. But maybe that's just me.

Hey thanks alot this will help alot :) 1 more question do i treat a moving gif the same way. And you say poser doesnt like divx , what should i use indeo or just use Microsoft codec? or what do you use? Thanks for the speedy reply Ps If you know of any Good Tutorial's on this aspect of Poser Avi And gif's inside an animation set. off the top of your head can you post um here 4 me ?;) thanks again

Firstly, I have not managed to get an animated gif to work as a texture. If it is possible please tell me how. I have some freestuff ready that will only work in P5, but if I can use animated gif's then I can make it usable in P4 as well.

I use *.avi uncompressed. That means there are no codecs of any sort. But the file size doesn't have to be huge. Remember that if the avi is going to be on the screen of a TV in your animation, and your animation is 640 by 480 pixels screen size, and the TV takes up a quarter of the screen in your animation, you can resize your avi to say, 200 by 150 pixels, and you won't lose any quality in your animation. If your .avi is 25 fps and is two seconds long, then your Poser animation must be 50 frames at 25 fps. That way the avi and the animation match. If your avi is 20 seconds long, and your animation is only ten seconds, you will lose the second half of the avi in the animation. If your avi is 2 seconds long, and your animation is ten seconds, you can select the Loop_Movie option, and the avi will repeat five times in your animation.

Hope I explained that OK.
