Except of course the British. Cause, they lost.
Then again, I've seen the BBC, they need all the happy help they can get.
Happy 4th of July!
This is meant to be a joke, don't attack me. I happen to like several shows on the BBC, love Monty Python, and usually find the British Humor very amusing. It's not their fault their country's just an island. Not even a tropical one at that.

The BBC IS pretty crappy and I am british. Is this a holiday in the colonies? :)
leather-guy posted Sun, 04 July 2004 at 1:12 AM
Yeh, 7/4 is the colonial version of Guy Fawlkes (sp?) Day. Personally I like a lot of BBC content. A little hard to get used to popular series with (for instance) an 8-year run, but only produced 5 of those 8 years, and an average of 6-8 episodes per season produced. That, plus seeing what seems like the same 8-12 actors in nearly every series. Love the humor.

Fawkes, leather-guy. F-A-W-K-E-S. :)
In celebration of Independence Day, I believe I'll go out and set fire to something. Listen for the sirens.

yeah hahaha... I'm English.. and find it midly amusing that I get wished a happy 4th of July... Although the sentiment is appreciated... Although i think now its more a good excuse to have a party & get together with family, rather than anything historic.. could be wrong.
Have a good time American peeps!! hehe ;) PS.. and one good thing about the BBC and its many channels, NO COMMERIALS.... thats why us Brits have to pay a TV lincence fee every year... lol

Perhaps we should celebrate by painting ourselves blue and tipping some barrels of Starbucks in the Thames?

Happy 4th to you too!

I dunno RHaseltine..the fish might get a bit edgy..and the 'looney lefties' would certainly protest..;) Happy Guy Fawkes day (we only symbolicly burn our folks in effigy..;), Boxing Day, etc. Cheers for being such good sports about the old 'former colonies' bit..;)

"Except of course the British. Cause, they lost." Brits love to celebrate defeats, they have "Waterloo station" and "Trafalgar square", whereas we, froggies, have Austerlitz station and Iena bridge. ;) Anyway, I thought britain was under US orders, these days ? (OK, keep a stiff upper lip, old chaps : it's just a little cross Channel tease, not a tabloid...)

I thought napoleon got beat at waterloo? The french had a lot of good fighters during world war 2 unfortunately they were mostly working for the germans...
RHaseltine posted Mon, 05 July 2004 at 6:42 AM
Yeah - Waterloo and Trafalgar celebrate defeats all right - of the French ;)!

Good point for Napoleonic history, xantor and RHaseltine ! This is a common joke apparently aimed at our british friends and in fact aimed at ourselves. ;) On the other hand, xantor gets an F in WW2 history and will have to read Leclerc's biography, along with De Gaulle, Vercors and Closterman's books. Next test will be on July 14th, which is... which is ?
