I know it's been said before, but now it's really happening. I'd like to have some better basic drawing tools in the terrain editor like smap, grid, curve through points, fill. The modeller should export, do true booleans, add a lathe and extrude curve function. The Render should be faster. The main camera should allow for flat projection and TV as well as computer aspect ratios. I've got lots more but those are my top ones. What's yours?

real time rotation of objects on all 6 axes, without having to enter rotation coordinates (just an option, sometimes you want the coordinates..;)

Faster render engine. 'nuff said. J.

Yes N0 1 = Faster render engine.

I'm there with the True Booleans! I'd like to be able to reverse the Camera Trackball so that it acts like Wings' camera controls. That drives me nuts when I work with Wings for a while and then go to Bryce to set up a scene, it's like learning it all over again!! A multi-camera perspective (option) would be nice, like the 4 cam setups on other 3d apps. Faster renders are cool, but I'm more for the interface and control changes. Cory

Import morph geometry, so one can have more adjustment over an imported model. An alternate mode for the terrain editor which is similar to the Sim-City one. Get rid of the barrel roll that happens on circular paths (dunno if that's a Bryce 4 only bug, if not - fix it.) The ability to use animated pictures in texture maps (.gif/.avi/.mov) This would be quite useful in animation rendering. Have the interface automatically scale and position itself so that it stays at the same relative size and position regardless of the computer or document resolution settings. Bring back the control-tab full screen render. (I heard they got rid of this in version 5. I have it since I still use version 4. This seems like a cool feature that shouldn't have been removed.) Offer an option to "render as screen saver". Adds a desktop setting so any unused CPU time can automatically go towards your Bryce projects. Get rid of the "disappearing controls" on the right. Sure this makes the interface look pretty, but it causes more problems when the computer lags. They should be visible all the time. An improved manual that explains ALL the nuances and intricacies of the program. Displacement mapping of materials. Ability to make fuzzy, furry, or hair-like materials. Everything else is good. Don't really need too much change in the modeler, since Wings3D can do the job. Maybe get a deal where Wings3D could be included with Bryce.
Your friendly neighborhood Wings3D nut.

There might be something worth downloading.

Better view control, like the one in wings3d.So you can spin around your scene with a click of your #3 mouse button or zoom in on an object.

My top 3 would be: 1. Direct (non-disk) communication between D|S and Bryce or some way to automatically update a figure in Bryce. Actually I'd really like to see a D|S clone as it's own Bryce editor but that'd be a bit much to expect from 6. 2. Add to the render effects - Reflective Caustics (mirrors, water, etc. illuminate environment), Motion Blur, Lens Flare, etc. 3. Fix True Ambience so that it does true color bleed and fix DOF so it looks and works more like the rest of 3D. Best; Dan

Beside a faster renderer...
Yeah, better tools in Terrain Editor. With more advanced features like feather and different brushes. Check ZBrush.
Better view controls, like those in Rhino: right click + moving the mouse = shifts the view around. Zoom on mouse wheel. It's extremely handy and I find myself trying to use it in other programs.
If not the multi-view camera, at least they should get rid of the peculiarity of the side views. You know, when the sky gets all weird.
Now, who's going to copy this to DAZ Bryce wishlist? :-)

can they make it in pink with an 'export as chicken madras' option ?

I would like most the ability to set a global scale, e.g. 10 Bryce units = 10' or 100' depending on the type of scene. Then atmospheric effects would adjust to that. I would also like to simulate curvature of the earth if need be, so that the horizon can be about 4 miles away and not at infinity. Having a cloud layer getting infinitely smaller with increasing distance looks dumb.

Love an export option for Bryce made models.

Can't think why, myself. Bryce is the final destination for me.

I want to be able to properly boolean metaballs, collapse the 'skin' of metaballs to a single mesh, and have a plug-in for Max that make the sky lab and tree-lab available over there. Animatable vegetation would be a bonus....

The only thing that nobody here has said anything about yet is vegetation. I also have Vue and the plants in that are great because it isn't only trees. And you get a different plant of the same type every time you create one. The program "grows" a new one. Bryce just needs better veggies!
douglaslamoureaux posted Mon, 05 July 2004 at 11:52 PM
better color picker that lets one choose saturation/hue ditto for displacement mapping, better veggies, fuzz modeler. in short, I'd like to model a world with reasonable grass and some weeds. a more realistic sky/atmospherics physics modeller, look at terragen. let the user control the brightness of the sun, not just the color of its light. I want to see all of the polygons of objects in a scene sometimes. uv mapping of any imported object for textures. I don't really care about rendering speeds, I'm sure someday that someone will make a PC fast enough to render a 5 Megapixel image with full volumetric atmosphere, tons of lights with soft shadows and lots of transparent objects in real time ;0

FASTER RENDER! Real Caustics. Volumetric coulds in the cloudlab Radiosity HDRI support Multipass rendering (rendering to seperate layers for diffusion, ambience, specularity, reflections, ambient occlusion, indirect light etc.) this way you can tweak a lot in photoshop without automatically needing to render everything. Hi Douglas; "better color picker that lets one choose saturation/hue" I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but if you Alt-click (option click on the Mac)a color swatch you get four more color pickers: RGB, HSV, HLS and CMY. I use tte HSV picker more then any other. "I want to see all of the polygons of objects in a scene sometimes" By clicking on the little grid icon at the bottom right of the main window and setting the Static and Selected items to 128 all the polys will be displayed. My apologizes if I have misunderstood :-) Dan
