Hey Everyone,
Just a few minutes ago, when I went to launch Poser 5, I got an XML Error message that read:
"Parse Error: not well-formed at line 8."
As a result, Poser won't open all the way.
How can I fix this problem?
Please help.
Eric

Line 8 of your Runtimeuiposershell.xml file is bad. Or, at least, that's the most common one. It does that on occasion, and the root hasn't been isolated. Since this is the xml file that allows poser to display the screen, it's sorta important. There was a manual edit, but I don't recall. Only other solution I know of is to install a second copy of Poser 5 to a different location and copy the file over. The line should read: PSDFile name="./runtime/ui/24000_parmDialPrefs.psd" /

thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)

Isn't it caused by an illegal character in a folder name? Have you made any new folders? Installed anything new? Any folders with { or } in? If you remove that folder it may help (If there IS a new folder with odd characters of course)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

Basically, you need to update Poser 5 to the latest Service Release. This problem was fixed over a year ago.zarquen posted Tue, 06 July 2004 at 1:13 PM
You can simply delete all *.xml that exists into /runtime/prefs. You MUST save again your favorite preferred state.

Um, why not just get the latest Service Pack(s)?!

You may consider contacting Curious Labs directly to see if they might send the CD for a nominal cost. The point is that there were several Service Packs that fixed problems such as the one you experienced. You need them to get Poser working properly.
