I have tried asking in the poser forumn but no one could figure out what was wrong, neither could people in other message boards.. anyhow I have Poser 5 and when I try to click on a character or prop the parameter dials will not come up! You know the dials that for example if you click the head you can adjust the face, make the person smile, scale it, etc, etc? I've tried resetting my defaults, clicking on every button, opening every window, tired many differant characters and props.. nothing has worked. I've been at this for over 2 hours now when I was really in the mood do work on an image.. and I am so close to taking a shotgun to my computer... Please help me!! :(

Have you tried shutting down your computer and restarting it? When I've worked for too long on my computer, and have used too many different pieces of software, sometimes Poser just gives up. Shutting the computer completely down, and restarting sometimes helps. I don't know why. And I'm not saying that's the answer. But it's better than shooting your computer.

What do you have your 'Preferences' set to?
I mean...is it still set to "Factory"?

You may have to go to the ultimate despeate measure...reloading Poser. A moment of silence for Tebok.

That and AOL. If I have to reinstall, will it erase everything in it like all my textures, purchased items like Bailey, Greta, Daz people and stuff?
Ardiva posted Tue, 06 July 2004 at 11:25 PM
I agree with dialyn on this. I know there are times when I have to reinstall Poser..sometimes even having to blow the program all out and starting over. But hey we gotta do what we gotta do..'eh? Now let me see a smile..ok?

I don't have poser 5, however in P4 if you click on the figure name it makes the parameter dials invisible. Also at the bottom on the parameter dial menu there is a small tab to adjust the length of the menu. If that tab is pushed all the way up it will hide all the dials. If you've accidentially done either of those it might account for the problem.

Just reinstalling over your present one will not loose your stuff..only if you have to unistall it totally and then reinstall. Am I making any sense here?
Tebok posted Tue, 06 July 2004 at 11:33 PM
I will try to reinstall. Hope it works... :(

Well I just reinstalled the program and guess what? NOTHING!!!! ::CRYING HYSTERICALLY!!!::: OMFG WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH POSER??!? I am about to be driven mentally insane!!! Something else weird I forgot to mention.. when I start up a new Imaghe with the default man... and then start up again after clicking "no" when it asked if It I want to save it, it says, "Two items had the same name. The name just entered has been automatically modified" If you see this please reply... but for right not I(&^( give up. I wasted freaking hours of my time on this pathetic stupid problem that popped out of nowhere and completly ruined my evening! I am so livind right now I am freaking in tears. Thanks a lot Poser!! ::FURIOUS::: And thank for trying to help though... I doubt even the programmers of Poser could figure this problem out!

ok.... here are two things you could try.... (and one of them sournds stupid.)
first, reset the screen resolution of your monitor - i.e. if it's 800x600, try 1024x768 or even greater. once upon a time, i found that my dials, etc. had disappeared, and it was due to the "windows" being displaced off the edge of the visible workspace....
the second alternative is: did you click on "window" and then "parameter dials?" if it's not checked, it will not appear....
those are the ONLY suggestions i can make at this point. bonne chance!

You may need to actually reinstall as in remove poser from your system and install it again. Yes, if it's P5, it'll delete your Runtime, so make a copy of that before you uninstall. You can move it back after you've done the reinstall. Good luck... bonni

Ok..why aren't ya deleting the default Don before you load up other characters? I have the default man deleted then saving the empty window as "default.pz3". I have my preferences set at "Launch to previous state- Launch to preferred state" with clicking on the "set state" button. I then shut down Poser and restart it. It then loads up much faster with an empty window ready to start your work in. At this point I suggest that you completely uninstall Poser, then going to the Poser folder on your HD and delete any files that are left over including the main folder itself. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya.

Yup it's all better now. Reinstalling was not a big problem. I kinda screwed up and lost of of my default Poser 5 textures and stuff anyhow while I was doing my own character and texture work :)

Lots of cross posting! :-) Tebok, I'm so glad it's working now. Your frustration was almost palpable. Whew. I'm glad you didn't have to do a reinstall, what a major pain that is. bonni

Well I have AOL so the Poser problem was a cakewalk in comparison. You do not wanna know the stuff I wished upon Steve Case ;)

Well Tebok, I'm glad your problem is solved! :o) Now, does anybody know why this thread is so wide? Or is it just me? ;-D

Yes....sometimes the parameter dials window will turn itself off for no apparent reason. I've had this experience many times. I have yet to figure out why Poser does this. Another of those deep Poser mysteries.
Spook's suggestion will fix the problem.

Why hasnt someone ever developed a way to reinstall poser without reinstalling every prop carachter and model you have all over again? I mean you would think some computer wiz out there with a huge library like some of us have would have done that by now. LOL
