Im hoping to use this in a render with a knight kneeling and presenting the bouquet to a lady. I need the flowers to be tied or bundled together somehow.
I had mentioned this in another string, and got the advice of looking for a segmented morphing belt. Ive tried that and a morphing tube and tail but its not looking quite right.
In the spirit of the render concept, I wanted it to look like the knight had taken some pains to make the bouquet presentable. I was thinking perhaps some nice piece of cloth, like silk or satin or samite or whatever that could be morphed to become wrapped around the rose stems and look presentable.
Am I describing this well enough that youse guys can visualize it yerselves? Does anything like what im looking for exist? Im thinking that most cloths are gonna be carpet and rug and tapestry sized. Maybe a morphing hankerchief that I could apply some fancy cloth texture to?
What do you experts advise? :)
Thanks for reading,
Logan

Not sure if any of the morps in my morphing kleenex /morphing square / morphing sheet are usefull but you could try downloading them and see :o) (As usual I'm stranded Poser-less at work) I see now what you mean. And I still think you should give the torus a try, perhaps together with one of the morphing sometings I just mentioned :o) If the render is meant to be funny, you could also make one of the roses appear broken :o)FREEBIES! | My Gallery | My Store | My FB | Tumblr |

Ive been all over your fine webpage all day :)
I worked with the morphing square cloth but either its morphs arent suited to this idea or im not adept enough at using the dials yet. Didnt try the kleenix or sheet or blanket.
Its definately meant to be a serious picture, thats why I was thinking like a white silk cloth wrap with maybe gold trim or tassle, someting really nice. Knew it was a really odd and unique request but figgured damn the torpedoes and asked regardless :/
Anyhow, above is pic with torus, and rosed repositioned to accomodate it. Can you advise what to do to prepare it to look more clothlike, or should I just try and make this look like a golden or silver band around the flowers?

Well, if you're trying to be serious, you may have a bigger problem. OK, I'd want to check, but I don't think roses of that form were around in medieval Europe.

This sounds like a job for one of my morphing props, if you haven't already tried them. The magic tube should do it, if you have the patience to fiddle with all the morphs. :) It has a cylindrical map, so apply any seamless fabric texture that takes your fancy.logansfury posted Fri, 09 July 2004 at 5:27 AM
Thats kind of a drag. Unfortunately this was the only nice flower prop I could find to turn into a bouquet. Has anyone actually done peroid flowers? I dont think im up to painting them and I really wanted to work with props inworld. This isnt any kind of commercial venture so I may have to just go ahead with these roses regardless of the authenticity of the bouquet :/ Logan

Hello EnglishBob, Ive got the link and I think ill begin experimentation with your tube tomorrow (im really close to passing out here). Will this item be able to be "flattened" out to look like a strip or scarf of cloth wrapped around the stems? Thanks for the URL, Logan

To be accurate, you really need the 'open' type of rose (like the Lancashire/Yorkshire roses of War of... fame). If you're using the RDNA morphing rose, it might be able to get close? Perhaps if you misuse the morph dials a bit? If you want a scarf-like wrapping around the stems, as opposed to the overall wrap which you see nowadays, you might want to experiment with the morphing band at the link I posted before. But get some sleep first, don't pass out. :)FyreSpiryt posted Fri, 09 July 2004 at 6:57 AM
If it were me, I'd forget the band entirely. Find a nice bow or something similar and paint a band in behind it in postwork, or even paint the whole thing in postwork.

If I were a knight, kneeling to present these roses to a Lady, I would have only recently plucked them from the field or garden - I see no reason for binding them together at all. Go with it!! I'm not about to check in my history book either to see if those kind of roses were growing then :)

i would use a peice of rope( found in bondage props that wraps around the wrist of a character)at another site(one we cant mention here if you know the one i mean)lol and then color or texture to look like satin rope ... just an idea netta

I think I saw a "Bow Tie" in freestuff somewhere. Perhaps it could be adapted. It might have been for a Playboy Bunny or a Chipendale dude.
Ben_Dover posted Fri, 09 July 2004 at 12:50 PM
I'm with Irish on this one, I can't see a knight hassling with bows and ribbons and his hand will be in the area of the bouquet where it would be anyways. At most, post in a ribbon coming from where his hand is, giving the impression of a tie-up bundle. If he has a humble bowed-head looking up at her the focus will be drawn to her face anyways so the expressions and posing will be the key elements in the pic. I think. ;)

Good Morning everyone :)
I looked at the roses history website, Cool little read :)
There was only one rose depicted on the main page, a White rose of York, which ive posted the pic of here.
It seems that the 15th Century roses were more like open (concave) hollow cups formed from the spread leaves, rather than spiraled layers of leaves that form the more convex and full shape of todays roses. I think by using negative adjustment to the Bulb Shape dial that I can emulate this, ill give it a shot. Great suggestions for attention to detail, thanks AntionioTiger and EnglishBob :)
FyreSpiryt, and Roy G, Im REALLY glad you guys posted, youve shown me Im starting to think like you guys and that has to be good :) The first thing that I did was to bring in one of the Hair Bows from the DAZ frenz hair kit (that double pony tail style so popular on college campuses and on exotic dancers that wanna LOOK collegeat....) I resized it and positioned it, and it worked, but just looked far too modern im afraid.
Irish, you sound like yer jest impatient to get some flowers ;P
Actually I can see where you would wonder, "why bind them, just put them in his fist" The way that I see this render is, he is kneeling, presenting the flowers not held in fist, but laid horizontally along the forarm....Seems to me the dorks that used to give bouquets to pagent winners would always present them like that, supporting the bottoms of the stems in the hand, bouquet laid against the forearm, nothing obstructing the big silk wrap and bow, and the ladies would always take thier walks cradling the flowers, not gripping the stems. This is what im trying to recreate, and having the flower stems wrapped in some expensive looking cloth of gold or something similar immediate popped into my head as the solution.
bnetta I had thought of that briefly at first, didnt persue it cause I wanted the cloth to be able to be wrapped around the stems maybe in a cone shape or something and I knew the ropes would look like wound not loose cloth. At this point, Im thinking this is the best idea to explore before settling in with all the dials EnglishBob is warning me might take a bit of playing around with. Spose im gonna give that a shot. I can see the results now:
INNOCENT NEWBIE: I love you baby.
FURIOUS GIRLFRIEND: Shove it.
INNOCENT NEWBIE: What did I do???
FURIOUS GIRLFRIEND: Whats this charge for "erotic" stuff??
INNOCENT NEWBIE: I was just looking for a cloth rope....
FURIOUS GIRLFREIND: YOURE NOT TYING ME UP YOU FREAK!!!
INNOCENT NEWBIE: But it was just to render flowers for you.
FURIOUS GIRLFRIEND: Sure. Pig.
All in all, it seems to me that rendering should be safer to get away with.....

If he's handing it to her, then you probably wouldn't see the binding anyway. At best, there would be some strands of ribbon from his fingers or hanging below his hand. Irish is closer to the point though. A knight in full armor with greaves and gloves wouldn't be able to tie up a bunch of flowers. If anything, the flowers would be a little abused.

You know, I'm just wondering if the change in the shape of the rose was in Shakespeare's time. "A rose by any other name" and all that.

(My friend the minister is sitting here with me now and im trying to explain why I now have a bodage rope directory in my prop library....)
anyhow here is how it came out, a gold cloth texture is really the only one that took, all the white ones I used ended up lookin ceramic somehow? Evidently it wont matter much cuase in the final pic the ropes will be REALLY small.

It looks great.. and if you turn down the specular you will get a much less shiny rope, I'm sure. note to the minister: Logan hasn't used that rope for anything indecent, and whatever you hear about me is not true ;o)

A little flattening on the z scale, reshaping, stacking a few together and adding a wave morph to the end makes this belt by nikitacreed into a very usable ribbon for the posies. I used Traveler's morph roses from the same site. Any awkward parts are my fault for cobbing this together so fast, but you get the idea.

Thank you Thank you!!!!
I had just finnished my first draft of the picture with a postwork text test. Here it is. May I get critiques please? Laura loves picturesque outdoors, I love medieval, tried to combine the two....whaddya think?

Engelken, About all I can do with that belt is to flatten it by setting the Z scale to 0! I cant bend or shape it at all!! I also have no idea how to add a wave morph im afraid. Can you provide some instructions as to how I could emulate this? Thanks, Logan
TrekkieGrrrl posted Sat, 10 July 2004 at 6:16 AM
Well since it's a draft and you asked for critique... The pose is great but he doesn't look like he's really IN the picture. Looks like he's pasted onto a background. The lights on him are totally different from the rest of the picture and thre are no shadows. It's a bit hard to see how he's holding the roses from this angle, I can only see his hand because I know it is supposed to be there :o) Try turning him a little so its more obvious that the roses are resting on his arm :o) But again: The pose is spot on! and the background is wonderfull :o)

Good Morning :) What great stuff to wake up to! Thank you for creating the tutorial images for me Engelken, You are being a tremendous help to this newbie :) Thanks also to you and Grrrl for the critiques. What I had known and kept my yap shut about was that I had forgotten to reenable the shadows on render options, I needed to address the back of his hair, and I needed to lose the default poser lighting in favor of one of the nice DAZ global outdoor arangements. Now I can also turn attention to the pose! Cool deal :) With the products Im using here, im thinking its gonna take real work from me to NOT have this turn out nice, but im sure theres plenty of techniques for subtle improvement that im oblivious to, so if anyone sees something to advise on, dont hold back, lemme have it please :) Gonna get some breakfast into me and then put this wrap tutorial to work. Logan
logansfury posted Sat, 10 July 2004 at 6:30 PM
I had to do slight tweaking of scales, but I got it built as in the tut, and then noted that it got wider towards the bottom, so I flipped the wraps and applied the tails. Here is a not final render, to show the basic wrap completed, I now have to address front and side proportions and get rid of the last of the pokethru. Might just rotate a rose or two to accomplish that.
It seemes to compliment the bouquet beautifully. Thanks for the tutorial Engelken :)

I got stubborn and decided to go for making the bouquet free of pokethru from all angles.
Finnished pic above, This was a great project and taught me a lot!
Now im back to the scene render, to replace the existing bouquet with this one, and addressing the pose, lighting hair, shadows, and reflection map
Thanks everyone :)
