Fractals F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 13 3:03 pm)

Subject: A real dumb question probably.

Hello anyone, I am slowly trying to learn Ultra-Fractal. When I down loaded the public formulas (updated) unzipped in the requested area I can see it there. From inside the program when I go bowse for a new fractal nothing is there? What in the world am I doing wrong? Thank you so much for your time and consideration in this matter! Respectfully Ralph

When you open the browser, the tool bar in the UF window changes and includes a dropdown menu (just to the left of the help (?Question Mark) symbol. If you are trying to find a formula, the menu has to say formula or all files in order to find it. If it says 'gradients' for example, the list will be blank. I hope that helps.

Fractals will always amaze me!

This reply was edited to remove some erroneous info I had posted about the "Save As" command. Turns out it does allow you to rework the saved image - it just takes up a LOT more space than saving parameters does. The advantage of it is that the images draw instantly rather than waiting for all the iterations/layers each time you reopen them. Sorry 'bout my state of confusion, Ralph...And thanks to Simon, for calling the error to my attention! :>) Hi Ralph - I'm a bit confused, you shouldn't have to unzip anything when you update your public formulae folder. What you do is in UF, click the pull down "Options" and select "update public formulas" and it should put them all into your CxxxxUltrafractalDataFormulas folder. If you did this and they don't show when you try to select a new formula for a fractal layer, go to "Options" again and select "Folders" and make sure that the address for your "formula library" is pointing things to the right place. It should be similar to what I put, above, where "xxx" is the folder you've installed UF into.

Are you clicking "File" - "New" and then selecting "Fractal" when you are starting a new image?

Hope this helps - might need more info to help...
Rick
