Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 24 11:54 pm)
It makes a big difference if you have IK on for either feet or hands. With IK on for the legs, the feet will not move and so bending the leg does not give the right result. You can bend the legs by moving the hip. arms you use a combination of collar, shoulder and forearm movements, but not quite what you expect, depending on the model. Zero the figure pose using the joint editor and try a few trial moves of the shoulder, then forearm. Turn ik off for the legs if the feet are off the ground, it makes it easier to position using the thigh and shin dials. What figure are you using ?

To bend at knee and elbow: use "Bend" dial on shin and forearm. To get the shin to bend in under the figure in a cross-legged position, you'll need to use twist and so on as well. And of course lots of bend and twist on the thigh and perhaps even buttock, but generally as a last resort. Be sure you have IK switched OFF for the character - it's ON as default in Poser, unfortunately. :] Fish
I should point out that I meant that buttock bend is the last resort - not thigh. Wasn't clear enough there. Thigh bend and twist gives better results than buttock for sitting etc. Yeah, 'IK On' as default is one of those Poser things almost everyone hates. If at least there was a switch for it, to change the default in Preferences or something.

This strikes me as something elementary, that nearly all animators and posers come to at some point. However, I just can't seem to figure it out. I'm assuming it's a combination of dial work on the thigh & shin and the shoulder & forrarm. However, it just escapes me. I've tried lookingat the dial positions of figures in commercial kneeling poses, but can't then take that further into say, having the character sit cross-legged. Can anyone help?
