My PC crashed recently. I used non-destructive formatting to put windows back, so didn't lose my personal files but had to reinstall my Photoshop 7. All brushes, patterns, etc that I'd been using before the crash were still there where I left them. But Now.. I have 6 patterns & a whole set of styles that I've never seen before. Does anyone have an explanation for this??

ummmmmm, might be they weren't install on the first pass. i tend to not load up all the bells and whistles (temples, samples...) when i install stuff, i figure i can always go back and load it later...
seems weird indeed, most times it's the "disappearing act" that people write about.

AH HA!! I found where they came from!! They are Image Ready files.. Both patterns & styles. (Thank goodness. I was beginning to think I was seeing things that weren't really there.)
I rarely use image ready & only remembered to check there this morning.
Still weird because they are in the middle of the pat files that had saved themselves in the pattern overlay box. Some quirk of the installation I suppose.
