Yeah, But I faked it. (2 lights) Will Pro-Render be able to do this kinda thing for real? And shouldn't you be writing manuals rather than writing in forums? ;-)

woah
AgentSmith posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 12:33 PM
Please, define your "But I faked it". Which part is "fake"? The fact you used 2 lights or is it because you faked the light split by using light gels? ?!?!?!?!? Enquiring minds...

mmmm Not sure if that's a sarcastic "woah" Drac. But since you've just fixed a dead laptop I'd say that you're in a happy place at the moment and finding anything and everything interesting.
draculaz posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 12:40 PM
my former monosyllabic statement refers to many kowtows of respect for doing something that i've never seen done with bryce before =) drac
pumecobann posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 12:44 PM
Ahhh man, you cheat :-))
I kinda hoped you had done it for real.
Yeh, your right, I should be doing the manual, sorry, but I just can't resist!
Can PRO-RENDER do this for real? ...time will tell ;-)

Two lights. Both set to be infinite and visible (at about a setting of 3, anything more was just too bright). The 1st is hitting the prism and the 2nd is actually inside the prism at a right angle. A gell didn't work for some reason, so the light from beam 2 is going through a tiny cube with a picture of a rainbow in it's transparancy setting. The second beam's shadow is set pretty soft to blend the rainbox and voila. I had to make the rainbow box tiny in order for all the colours to show up. Probably because it's so close to the light source. SO as to which bit I faked.... All of it. What's more important, the road travelled or the destination?
drawbridgep posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 12:53 PM
@Drac - datorit@Pumeco - My skill isn't at a level where I could get Bryce to do it for real.
draculaz posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 1:01 PM
wtf. because? because what? and how do you know romanian? :P and master pumeco, when this PRO-RENDER marvel, and the PRO-RENDER EXTREME come out of the closet? you've advertised them enough to make them look like the second coming :) drac
danamo posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 1:02 PM
I'd say the result(or the destination)is the most important thing, and this looks convincing. Excellent concept!
drawbridgep posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 1:09 PM
@Drac. Blah, It's because? I thought it was thanks. I really should stick to English. (Crappy Internet translators) As for Pumeco. Len may be close to public enemy #1 right now, but come August he may well be the man of the year. Never has anything been so eagerly awaited (other than Bryce 6 maybe).
pumecobann posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 1:26 PM
"What's more important, the road travelled or the destination?"
That all depends upon your goal:
A: To get the image you want.
B: To get the image you want, and to know there's a consistent way to get it under more than one circumstance, and for everyone who attempts it.
As I've said, that's GORGEUS. I saw that image, and loved it immidiately, and you have a valid point.
But there is another point to remember. When you created that image, you did so using your own skill, and innovation. It does'nt matter what your level of skill is, the point is, YOU DID IT, and as I've said, RESPECT!
Now, would'nt you agree, if that sort of effect was a standard feature of Bryce 5, then everyone would have the knowledge to create such a render. This then, is route B, and that's the route of PRO-RENDER, or rather the logic behind it's existence.
I hope you can see what I'm trying to convey :-)

I think I get what you're saying. I'm walking the road on my own and you're driving a bus full of people. (Once you've finished building the bus of course ;-) So the bus might be quicker and easier and allow more people to travel the road, but at least I get to smell the roses on the way. Not that I'm saying I wouldn't take the bus just to see what it's like. Especially since the tickets are free. ;-)
pumecobann posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 1:43 PM
drawbridgep,
Spot on!
And, the bus maybe missing it's engine, but it'll soon be fitted!

It still looks freaking cool, and really, that's what it comes down to. Dang...I wish I could find the link, but I had seen a tutorial for a high-end program, that basically spelled out what you're doing here. It just reminded me that expensive, high-end software users really do use as many workarounds as we do, as often as we do. AS

love the bus analogy... :) quite appropriate
drawbridgep posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 2:57 PM
:-) I thought so too. And we're all standing here waiting for it. Probably end up with three coming all at once.
shadowdragonlord posted Sat, 17 July 2004 at 5:19 PM
Aye, I like the image, but your bus analogy takes the cake for being the coolest part of this thread, Drawbridgep. Good work!
bikermouse posted Sun, 18 July 2004 at 12:16 AM
drawbridgep, I knew it was faked as the deflection doesn't match the inflection or is that the angle of coincidence doesn't equal the angle of incidence? ... err.. something like that.Anyrate it's all spelled out in Snell's Law etc. if you're interested in looking it up. It appears that despiite the infracraction of the refraction, the deception has had a postive reception. Cool! - TJ
