Hi folks, I've decided to upgrade from the P4 that I own to P5. Curious Labs wants around a hundred bucks for the upgrade. A couple of questions.....Is there a less expensive way to do this? (I doubt it but never hurts to ask) Also, will all the stuff I've accumulated over the last several years for V3,(morphs, characters and textures) work with P5? Thanks a lot for the help!

Well I am a newb, but I am now using V3 with a ton of stuff I bought and downloaded without problems.

It all works in P5. You will need to adjust some of the material setting in old PZ3 files, but they still work in P5. I don't know about cheeper price. I bought the box version for the manual book, not that it's a lot of help, but does give some clues. Make sure you load the newest SR4 at the same time as P5, saves on the hair. Then have fun, your going to love the material room and dynamic cloth.

Note: Poser 5 fixed the bug in poser 4 that created crosstalk. This means that the hacks that were created to use this bug do not works either. THese hacks include "super-ERC" and the like, which is the cool feature that you load v3, get her set up, load one of the "magic clothing' pieces, they acquire her orphs automagically. THat doesn't happen in P5. Outside of that, the majority of folks love it, even if they have to learn a whole new way of getting textures on their figures and objects :)

You could use Poser 5 as an excuse to start your Poser installation anew. By this time, your Poser 4 installation may have lots of kinks or problems you don't even know about. Heck, why not keep your Poser 4 installation, and install only what you think you'll use for Poser 5? You can start out using separate Runtimes in Poser 5 to get even better control.

I posted this elswhere, but I'll copy it here... If you leave the default RuntimeLibraries alone Poser 5 loads faster. After that copy all of the Geometries into the default Runtime (there doesn't seem to be a limit to the size on this), you can pretty much reorganize to your hearts content, without worrying about breaking anything or long load times. Poser 5 reads the RuntimeLibraries folder on startup. Hope this helps. Having a total of around 60 gigs of files for Poser, every bit helps for me. Currently all of my downloaded content sits in a seperate location from my Poser install.
