Does anybody knows freeware which can do that, or a tutorial for PaintShopPro or Elements which is good???

Here is one of my photos ( this one is for AgentSmith) which I would like to "convert" to a seamless texture ! :)

Usually, there will be some sort of filter that will take the picture and cut it into equal 4ths, and then flip them horizontally and vertically, so the outside edges now lay against one another, on the inside. Then with varying opacity, one would use the clone stamp to hide the visable seams, after you're done you can use the filter again and flip it back. That's about it. In Photoshop the filter is called "offset", and instead of the clone stamp I use the "healing" tool which can hide seams, sometimes in seconds, it's like cheating, it works so well. You would need to check out the freeware 2D editors, see which one you can have at least the stamp tool with varying opacity's. AgentSmith

Lots of good tutorials out there, I'm sure someone will have a link. But it's very easy to do - as long as PSP can handle offsetting and cloning. Here's a very basic rundown, using your texture above. It will be difficult to avoid a very obvious 'repeat' with so detailed a texture, though, IMO. Hope this helps, and isn't insultingly over-simplified :o(

Oops, cross-posted with AS, wasn't as quick off the mark as he was. Here's his version used as a repeat, same problem as my one, very obvious repeating pattern.

I have Photoshop Elements (got it for free with my Wacom tablet), im gonna "fire" it up tommorow, hope it has something similar, PaintShopPro 7 does not :(

I would had put more work into making the picture not only seamless, but to subdue the repetitive effect if it were a picture of grass or dirt, something that would be tiled on infinite plains or such. But, with rusted metal, as long as you aren't scaling your texture up ridiculously high, the repeating won't ever show. I used cylindrical and Object Cubic mapping here, scaled between -10% to +10%. And, with various mapping, and material settings, you can use the same picture on multiple areas. Here Kemal's picture is used on all areas of the kettle, just with different settings. OK now see this is where AS's sony camara comes in, thats really a photo of an old teapot he had kicking around his ultra huge apartment and what a coincidence that the rust looks like Kemal's pic. :-D Great job! I love the look.

Paintshop pro 8 has a seamless command in The Effects/ Image Effects menu. I upgraded for $35 from 7. You have to contact sales because they didn't or don't post the fact. I have included a link to a paintshop tutorial I posted here. It shows how to wipe out the bright spots from flash images to make textures more uniform. It's great for photos from inside garages or wood doors where you must use a flash.

great use of the texture as lol you should have been a dutch painter in the 17th century they were obsessed with material look too in theire still lifes.

My high school art teacher used to call those types of paintings "hyper-real". I think photo realistic is a more fitting term.

Roobol has a tutorial which shows how to make a seamless texture even if you don't have a filter that cuts the photo up for you. I've tried it and it does work but now I use Photoshop's offset filter as described by others above. Still, I have a fascination with seamless textures, enjoy making them when I've nothing else more coherently creative to do and Roobol does fantastic artwork using photographic textures that takes my breath away.
