I use Metapad - haven't really used a lot of them, but I prefer it over Notepad.Phantast posted Thu, 29 July 2004 at 5:11 AM

I like Programmer's File Editor (PFE). It's no longer under development, but I find it powerful and easy to use.kuroyume0161 posted Thu, 29 July 2004 at 8:19 AM

And, finally ;), there is UltraEdit32.C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the
foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg
off.

Edit Pad Lite is free, and handles everything I've tried. Why pay for a text editor when a free one will do the job nicely.layingback posted Thu, 29 July 2004 at 10:12 AM

gVim, esp. if you add Dodger's Poser Syntax checker. It's essentially Unix Vi but with a GUI so you don't have to learn every arcane command to use as a normal editor. But the full power of Vi is there - including scripting - whenever you need it. And FAST! It loads multi-MB files instantly.
And Dodger's Poser syntax script poser.vim) displays all Poser syntax color coded. And a similar feature for Python is built in.
Price is right too - $0.00.

I love Textpad, personally. It's only $16.50 and you can try before you buy. It has things like bookmarks and line numbers so it's really useful for me.hogwarden posted Fri, 30 July 2004 at 7:32 AM

Blimey! So many text editors! If you need one which can load and save *compressed* Poser content files, and has Poser Syntax highlighting and a feature to jump to a particular section of the file, you could look at Zpad? H:))sixus1 posted Fri, 30 July 2004 at 9:18 AM
I just use notepad :)
Bobbie_Boucher posted Fri, 30 July 2004 at 9:28 AM
Notepad is very limited. It can't always handle the size of the files I want to use. Plus, Notepad doesn't like to use different file extensions. EditPad Lite will load anything you give it.
nickedshield posted Fri, 30 July 2004 at 10:31 AM
One thing editpadlite or pro cannot handle is compressed files. If you are doing a lot of compressed file editing the zpad probably is the best because it can read them.
I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.
