THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce 6 info.

Hi,
I'm trying to find some information on the proposed version of Bryce 6. I recall something said about faster renders speeds. Does anybody know when this version is coming out? Another question I have is, does anybody else have problems with the Divx codec? For those who are not familiar with Divx, it is a compressor decompressor that does an amazing job.
In poser 5 this codec works fine, but in Bryce I keep getting errors.
With this codec, sending animation across the Internet is more manageable. As long as the receiving person has this codec installed. I can send them, (across the Internet) video files of animation, at very small file sizes. Here is a link to a free download of this codec: http://www.divx.com/divx/
The Page says it's a tryout, but I don't believe there is a time period on it. This codec has been on public domain for years. It used to be owned by Circuit City, thinking that it would be the next standard for DVD. When MPEG won the bid, Circuit City let it go to public domain. Millions of dollars have been invested in this codec. Over the years people would create their own version, the pro version is supposed to be 30 percent better. I was impressed by Divx itself, and its free.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Hmmm I've always used Divx, but only as a media player that plays .dvd files, and that's only on boring Mondays and all I can do is sit and watch reruns of Love Hina. It's never given me any problems with compression. As for Bryce 6, I think we're all as mystified as you are. Claiming to have faster render speeds on the next version is a Bryce trademark.

Let me clarify this, are you saying that you do not have any problems rendering animation with this codec in Bryce? I know, I don't have any problems rendering animation with this codec in Poser. When I render animation I have a choice of which codec to use. I will attach a picture of this dialogue. As for Bryce, what's the big secret?

DAZ had already announced (right after they aquired Bryce) that they figured out how to make it render faster. I see no reason they wouldn't include this feature with the next release of Bryce, which should be version 5.5 When is it coming out? Maybe I'll have a better guesstimate of that after I meet with DAZ at Siggraph, in about a week. Divx PRO IS a tryout. Regular Divx is free and non-ending (as far as I can see) for its decoder AND encoder. AgentSmith

They said in a press release that v5.5 should be out this fall--(unspecified date so far), and that faster renders would be in that update.

AgentSmith, thank you for correcting me. I must have misread that. When you have that meeting with DAZ's, ask them if they plan on making Divx compatible with Bryce. It isn't a codec I would do a production project with, but it is good for doing preliminaries over the Internet. I find it funny that Poser renders animation in this codec, but Bryce does not. They both originated from the same company (Meta Creations). Perhaps, it was something Curious Lab's added to this software.

"Should be out this fall " that is good news. I hope it does have better render speed. As it is now, render speed takes entirely too long. Thank you for your participation.

Well...wait a minute, as far as I have seen, Divx IS compatible with Bryce already. I have been slowly trying some animating in Bryce, and have always used the Divx codec, although there may be a difference?, (I bought the pro version of it). The window looks just like the one 3dz posted, works great for me right out of Bryce. AgentSmith

AgentSmith, I'm going to start a new post. I am on dail up, and this page is starting to take a longtime to load. I will entitle it,
"Divx continued". I have some new developments that I would like to discuss.
