How come Poser isn't free?

You can purchase Poser through CuriousLabs or through various authorized resellers such as Amazon, MacConnection, or the Rendo store here. It is an incredible program for the price. Carolly Poser Coordinator

It's not free, but for the brilliant application it is and the price one pays for it, it's a bargain for sure. If it would be free it would be as terrible as DAZ Studio, so thank heaven it isn't free!

What's so bad about DazStudio? Just because the interface is different from Poser's doesn't mean it's a piece of crap. The latest build of D|S is both good and stable, at least on my computer. If you haven't tried D|S since the early alpha stages, I suggest you give it another chance. So it doesn't animate. But honestly how many of us animate? And it haven't got a face- or cloth rom? Well I can't count how many people I've heard complaining over those 2 rooms in Poser 5. The only thing I miss in D|S is the material room.

I do use animation on a regular basis and never complain about the face/cloth room or any other rooms). I've tried the latest D/S beta and it's for sure missing all the neat features of P5. I never cared much for P4 it was OK, but I love the way P5 is set up. D/S reminds me of P4 too much and I didn't upgrade to P5 for no reason. Besided that D/S has problems with handling native P5 stuff and the renderer is imho horrible.

D|S does a pretty good job for being what it is. Let's not knock it for being something it isn't. D|S is not Poser. It has many similar abilities to both Poser 4 and Poser 5, and it can use the same basic stuff. It's simply a different program. While I'll not be switching any time soon, I'm not the target customer. The target customer is a new user, who is unused to 3D artwork and doesn't need many of the newer features of Poser 5, or the ability to construct content or be able to easily share or sell that content. It has a place. That place may be alongside Poser, but it's unlikely that it will replace it any time soon.

Once a while back I got Poser 3 free from a German software company as a promotion for PPP. It was via download (no magazine to buy) and I was even able to register it with CL, but, alas, that offer has long since expired. But I've never regretted the hundred bucks I paid for Poser 5 (plus about a hundred times that for tons of extra junk to use with it like Mike and Vicky and stuff)

I get such a kick out of these threads. The "anti-pirate lynch mob" comes out so quickly. The truth is: there are legal* and free versions of Poser. You can get Poser 3 free in the right magazines. You can get a demo version of Poser. So once again, "free" doesn't mean pirated.

I think they should make P3 available free as a promotional thing like Truespace does with version 3. You get a registered copy of Truespace 3 free to get you hooked in the hope of you eventually buying the current version.
You can get Poser 3 free in the right magazines.<<
But the magazines cost in the $15 to 20n range, if you can find them at all (they're always British magazines, and lots of stores in the US don't carry them.
You can get a demo version of Poser.<<
That really doesn't count anyway because it's crippled to the point of being useless anyway. After trying the demo back in 2001, I first decided not to get poser as it seemed like just an overpriced toy. It was only after I started searching the web for 3d Art and saw some Poser renders that I decided to get it

ernyoka1 there is a lot about daz studio that is bad, it is very slow, on my computer at least. People complain about the poser interface but I find the daz studio interface to be very awkward and difficult to use. A lot of people like the cloth room, and some (like me) like and use the face room, too. The poser 5 materials are great, too. I would say that they are better than the bryce materials, so the daz-bryce plugin is not much use either.
aeilkema posted Wed, 04 August 2004 at 1:29 AM
The plugin is really strange it still doesn't allow you to really import PZ3 scenes and not all of your content either.... They claim, "Now you can quickly and easily import all your favorite Poser content directly into Bryce 5!" But that is very very misleading. It's not easy, not quick (you still need to go through D/S) and half of the my poser 5 content will not get imported at all. It's no way near Mover 5 which really allows you to import Poser content!

I have a very easy time using P5 and Vue together. I also have Bryce, D|S and the famous Plugin, but I'm not ready to make the "switch" yet...

I was so hot to get my hands on Daz Studio. Unfortunately I never figured it out, and eventually wiped it off my computer. Maybe when they finally have it "together," and some one has made some decent tutorials, I'll try it again.
