trying to change transparency so that i can see through my figure's head while doing a tutorial, but tutorial doesn't say how to change trans. lol. (and neither does the ref manual apparently).

You need to use the Materials room for altering the characters transparency settings. Hoever, if you just want to make the head invisible to view, select it, then select the "Properties" tab. (Right next to "Parameters" on the box with all of the dials). Under Properties, unchek the box marked 'Visible'. To change the actual transparency settings, go to the materials room. At the top, select 'Figure One' and 'Skin Head', then look for the Transparency Value dial on the left bar (the 'Root Nodes' area). Adjust that dial to 1.000 by either sliding it to the right, or clicking the numerical display and entering '1'.

You can also use the display settings to change the way a body part is displayed, so that it shows as a wireframe for example. You see a lot of hair props that are set to display in wireframe mode.
