beginning to wonder if something is wrong. Geep hasn't posted anything in this thread since he started it 2 days ago.

geep posted Wed, 18 August 2004 at 6:45 PM

Hi cherokee69,

Thank you for your concern ... but nothing is wrong. ;=]
I have been quite busy with other (non-Poser) things.

This (house tut) is a very large and complex project and I have not decided how to "split it up" yet.

Also, I need to add a couple of more pages to the "Magic Pyramid" tut which will be used for making the roof of the house.

Doc has a question for all those interested in this tut:

**Do you want to:
A. Build a simple house first to learn the technique ...

Cool geep, glad to hear you are OK. Hum, let's see..maybe for most people a simple one to start out with and then a more complex house. Of course, you know me, I'll just jump in with both feet. Your tut's are so good that anyone can follow them no matter how complex they are.

RedHawk posted Wed, 18 August 2004 at 7:35 PM

I second the motion..... Let's start with the basics. Tar-paper shack first....Taj Mahal next. ;)

HeavyRay posted Wed, 18 August 2004 at 8:11 PM

Make that a "third"... simple first, then complex!!

And thanks (once again) for this "labor of love" you do for all of us.... MUCH APPRECIATED!! - Ray

Oh, and I would rush into building the big house first. Then in the middle of it realizing I can't handle it and giving up the whole thing. So, wise from experience, I'd go for the little house first. :o)

How about 'C' - 1 finished wall at a time? How hard can that be?

geep posted Thu, 19 August 2004 at 7:36 PM

Hmmm, "C" ... I hadn't thought of that one. I think that might work. The best of both worlds, so to speak. ;=]

I think a fairly simple ranch or bungalow style would be a good start, but it should be interesting... you know how the salt-box houses have gables? Or maybe like the traditional New England church seen on all the Christmas cards (basically a rectangle with porch and something pointy on the roof) A quirk would mean that whatever we build would be useful, even if it was simple. THEN we go for the faux tudor mansion. :) Carolly

Tereesa posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 12:35 PM

If you are making only one tut on this than I say make it complex. If you are willing to make two, than start with basic and than complex. teehee Thank you so much for all of your tutorials. I love them. You make everything so much easier to understand and have made my experience with Poser so much more enjoyable than it would have been without your help. I just want to say THANKS! and I will be reading along whether you choose to do basic or complex. ;-) :-D

Here's a sample of my first attempt, using a P5 shader tree to get the texturing. I'm not happy about getting the bricks the same size on the different size pieces. Anyway, is this something like you're aiming for, Doc? It's easy enough, until it comes to getting all the details just right.

geep posted Mon, 23 August 2004 at 11:59 AM

Hey AntoniaTiger,

That's lookin' good!
BTW - Do you have UVMapper?
It's almost a must for texturing stuff. ;=]

We will be covering (pun intended) the walls later in this tut.

Ah yes, it's always the details, isn't it.

That's where the "devil" is, n'est pas? ;=]

Yep, I have UVMapper. I was doing some more fiddling with Anim8tor to make a wall section with a doorway. I'll not clutter this with pictures, but I guess I should use UVMapper to remove any distorion from non-square facets. Anyway, what size is a standard doorway (this house is a bit too old to have a standard anything...).

geep posted Mon, 23 August 2004 at 1:45 PM

Standard door sizes ??? .......... Yes! ;=]

There are 2 standard sizes used in the USA for exterior doors.

They are:

  1. 2'8" x 7'0" (32" wide)
  2. 3'0" x 7'0" (36" wide)

I tried some of this but had problems texturing the stuff. When you stretch the boxes and stuff and add a wood texture it stretches very badly. How do you keep the textures from doing that? Of course I am using the Prop Types in Poser 4. Are they different in Poser 5?

geep posted Sun, 06 March 2005 at 3:59 PM

re: "How do you keep the textures from doing that?"

Do you have UVMapper?

re: "Are they different in Poser 5?"

They should be the same except in Poser5 they are in a folder named "Primatives."
