You have probably got unwelded vertices. One solution is to open the OBJ in UVMapper and use the weld vertices tool. In the Lite version its under Edit/Tools. You can get UVMapper at the link.Other reasons could be that you have the mesh incorrectly grouped but I think in this case I'd try welding first.
Hope this helps.

Hi Nio103! You probably exported the OBJ without first selecting your UV-map in one of your surfaces in Lightwave. The UV-map will not export to OBJ in that case.
lupus posted Wed, 18 August 2004 at 10:24 PM
By the way, do your welding in Lightwave, no need to do it in UV-mapper. :-)

Can i send you the obj so you can tell me whats wrong with it? It still keeps tearing after I pose the character. First time modeling dress. They did weld on poser when importing I selected weld identical vertices. Manuel(Nio)

You can send the obj (or lwo-object) to me if you like to. I would be happy to help. mail: mattias@modelldata.com
nio103 posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 1:28 PM
ok I sent the dress tell how you keep it from tearing and how you made it comform. I made it in lightwave. with cylenders, deleting the top polygon and bottom. Manuel(Nio)

Hi Manuel! I got it in my mail now, I'll take a look at it right away. /Mattias/
nio103 posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 1:40 PM
I sent to philc too. Now to see who can solve this problem. I believe conforming a dress is more difrent the comforming pants couse a dress is not stuck to the body. it has folds. Manuel(Nio)

I got the OBJ but could you also please send the obj file that Poser is using and the CR2 file. I'll need them both to see how you have set up the groups and joints in Poser.
Thanks,

I've looked at it in LW now. There are no unwelded points and the UV looks fine. I think the problem occur in Poser when you set up the groups. To avoid that: 1. Set up the groups in Lightwave instead (it's called "parts" in LW) before you export it to OBJ. 2. About the UV. In Lightwave, before you export to OBJ you will need to assign the UV-map to a surface (F5 to bring up the surface-editor), no need to select any image, just the UV.

About getting the skirt to conform properly in Poser I think PhilC can answere much better than I ever could.
nio103 posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 2:17 PM
the right way to set up groups is selecting all the polygons and giving them a name right so they become a new group right. then how do i delete the other group names. F5 wont bring up the surfice editor. what tab do I click. First time using the surfice editor. Ill be online for a while till I get this. Manuel(Nio) Ill be great once I learn this.

how do i fix this child to child problem philc, couse i dont know what child to parent is. or child to child. and mattias. when you said abdoman and hip group, wich you at least try to match. after i put the body in the back layer and dress in frot to highlight the abddomen and hip, the polygons highlighted all crucked. how di you highlight in color. and you told me i need to assign the uvmap to a sourfice. did you mean i should select the name group I called dress and press the T and then just click apply.

can one of you should me a picture of this working, ill give me hope. lol
lupus posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 4:36 PM
I'll try to show this in an image, soon. About the color on hip and abdomen. I just selected those "parts" and gave them induvidual (q) surface-names and color, just so I could see them better. Nothing that needs to be done, but it helps when making groups (parts) for the shirt.
nio103 posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 5:06 PM
Good idea, on that group parts coloring. Im not giving up on this.
lupus posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 5:23 PM
Actually "simplest" way to make the groups (parts) in your skirt match those in the mayadoll is this way: 1. Activate only the layer with the mayadoll. 2. Hit "w" (be sure to be in "polygon mode") and select a part (for example the Hip). 3. Click on the "view tab" and click "hide unselected". Now the only visible polygons will be those belonging to the Hip part. 4. Activate the layer with your skirt and keep the layer with the mayadoll as a "background layer". 5. Select the polygons in your skirt that matches the area in your background layer (the Hip) 6. Click "view tab" click "create part" and select the same name as the part in the background layer (in this case "Hip"). 7. Click "unhide" and start all over again with your next group (part).
lupus posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 5:27 PM
You should also hide the already made groups (parts) in your skirt so you not by accident select those polygons again. (it would screw up things in Poser later on)

Matties theres no view tab but theres a display tab and I found the hide and unhide tab there. but cant find the create part option. I took a screen shot so you can see. it might be named diffrent or is that a plug in option for the create part.
Manuel(Nio) I got the rest right but cant find that tab (Create part)
lupus posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 10:44 PM
My fault Manuel! I should have asked what version of LW you were using. What I described is for v8. You're on the right menu thou, just select "Change part name" (you can just choose one in the list or give a new name). :-) /Mattias/
nio103 posted Mon, 23 August 2004 at 10:41 AM
But now one of the legs keeps going through the skirt.
1.When its says multy group how do i fix that?
2.Do I Just delete that part that says no bone? Manuel(Nio)
