Hi all. I just bought a copy of Computer Arts magazine (here in the UK) And on the cover disc there is a FREE copy of Vue D'Esprit 3.1 FULL WORKING PROGRAM!! It's not a 30 day trial but it does render only up to 1024 x 760 and if you want larger pics you have to pay about 30 I think. I thought I would share this info with you all. Minty

I bought this too, and one of the first things I noticed is that the program crashes quite a lot, at seemingly random times, it probably isn`t my setup as I have windows 98se and windows xp dual boot.

I'd give anything for this disc but I'm in the US and you can't get it here without a full year's subscription to the magazine. I couldn't even find any stores that sell the mag. Oh, well, guess I'm outta luck. Kristta

Kristta, the Borders chain and the Barnes and Noble chain both carry this magazine, at least in the US Northeast.

US distribution seems to lag UK by about three months, so we're stuck having to be very patient.

I saw that but I got Vue D'espirt 4 off ebay (new and sealed) for 25 already :D (does a little dance)

Just been to their site (Computer Arts, not Vue) and there's an e-version you can download. Haven't bought it yet since I dunno if the CD comes with that one or not. Anybody else know more?

If one really wants to pic nits it's not free, it costs ya $15 for the mag :-)
Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Still affordable. Now if only I could get it up here in Canada....

I have the new issue of 3D World, but haven't installed it as I already have Vue 4, however, I did notice that they're calling the free version Vue 3 LE ... it's apparently not the full Vue 3. You can upgrade for about $40 USD. If you like the app, especially if you're a Poser user, you'll eventually want to upgrade to version 4, which is quite powerful. Starting with these free earlier versions and then gradually upgrading is probably the least expensive way to get to full Vue 4. The most common complaint about Vue 4 is that Open GL, which enables more view panel options, doesn't work for everyone. It's "iffy" on my machine, so I just turned off the Open GL option and use the default wireframe views. Once you're accustomed to them, they're fine. I've never had problems with the app crashing, not even when I was still using Win98. Sorry to hear about that, xantor ... it really is a beautiful app but like all of 'em performance will vary from system to system. It'll be very interesting to see what Vue 5 entails, especially now that the VuePro exists.

Yeah I should mention that it's found on the 3D World mag too (Both mags owned by same company).

Thank you, xonocostle, I will just have to try and see what is wrong. :( The demo of vue4 on the disk seems to have the poser importer with it, does anyone know if it works?

I want to know if the poser importer works in the demo version so that I can try it out myself.

Byrdie, Chapter's in Canada sells those magazines.
Byrdie posted Sat, 28 August 2004 at 5:03 PM
Good to know, now all I gotta do is find the nearest store -- if they even have one here in Newfoundland. Do they have a website?
rain posted Sat, 28 August 2004 at 5:47 PM
Yes, it's www.chapters.indigo.ca. I think they also own the Coles bookstores now but I'm not sure about that.
Byrdie posted Sat, 28 August 2004 at 5:49 PM
Thanks. Off to take a look-see.

xantor: The poser importer works in the Vue 4 demo. Renders are limited to 640x480 though.

Can't find it? , wait a few weeks then backorder the issue from the publisher, it's cheaper too that way despite the shipping.
Byrdie posted Sun, 29 August 2004 at 9:45 AM
I just might do that if I can't get it from Chapters. E-mailed them last night to ask if they carry or can order it for me, waiting now for an answer. Meanwhile I got the Maya 6 free learning edition so I'll play around with that and see how it works. Certainly won't be buying it, though. I checked the price list and it costs as much as a good used car where I live.

Drove an hour yesterday to nearest book store (had to go any way for mice for my snake) and found the August issue of Computer Arts. Will go next couple weekends til I can get it (using snake needing mice and rat needing food as excuse)! Kristta
