Subject: Free characters with their own geometry, any links?

A Bryce user pointed out that he would like to use characters in his renders but could not afford Poser. I mentioned that with free DAZ studio this was no longer the case. Now I sort of have to eat my words. I have poser, and now studio. I also have vicki and mike. I've looked at a lot of characters and they mostly use the geometries of p4man woman or mike and vicki. Does anyone know of standard human characters that have their own geometries?

I've never used this but I've seen a lot of people that have Maya Doll, which I belive is a complete asian figure, free, with bunch of freebies to go with her (at the bottom of the page). Have no idea how this figure works in D|S or even how you'd go about installing it, but they do have a support forum. HTH; Dan

Sara is a free character available through DAZ forums (sorry I don't have the link handy) and sixus has adam 2 and the satyr and her all free and all complete. Casey_42, the Old Newbie EZ Duz it

Unfortunately Mayadoll requires P4 and objaction mover. I will however check out Sara. I have also gotten the gorilla, dragonLE etc when daz gave them away for a week only. Also the creeper and dbot are in the daz perminent freestuff. I have a lot of sixus freestuff ad they're great. There are also various droid and alien characters at animotions with their own geometries. I have lots of nice free people. Unfortunately, most of them go back to poser in some way. Thanks,

Thanks for the tip casey, Sara is a toon like Koshini. She is available from the DAZ forum at the above link. If you are not a DAZ member you will have to create an account and log in.

A total of 215 products snicker Erm, are there any free ones in there Clint? After all, the guy /was/ asking for "free" characters. grin

Well, all I can say is that H.E.R. has a lot of free textures and such to go with the character, and it is surprisingly flexible. Behemoth even has a Bish mode coming out and Lillian will be out to go with Beka (the child) and Adam2. A full line of human characters, lots of support.

There is also Lalala by poism, another nice toon-type character. Click 'freebie' to get it.

Nearly free is good enough :) My point is there are lots of characters that don't require P4. Thanks!

I would like to see any renders done with my robot. I said that when it first came out and haven`t seen any pictures, yet. :(

Sorry, I didn`t notice that it was human characters asked for, oh well.

Xantor, Did a quick trial with your 'bot, hope you don't throw rocks at me :)

xantor posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 6:55 AM

No it is good to see a picture done using it. By the way, the grasp dial works on the robot making the hand close and open though I don`t know if it works with daz studio but it probably will.

There is a free texture for my robot at the link. The texture is called X51.

casey_42 posted Tue, 07 September 2004 at 11:21 AM

I should have mentioned that those were some slightly tweaked poses designed for M1 lo res that came with D|S, seemed to work pretty good to me, the hand wouldn't close quite as tight as I would have liked but other than that it was fine. Thanks for the link to the textures, will give them a shot too.

Xantor, Hope you like this render a bit better than the other, I wasn't real pleased with the bannister I made for this one I will have to work on it, but the UFO came out pretty good.

xantor posted Wed, 08 September 2004 at 3:37 PM

I do prefer the second picture ( apart from the bannister).

It's called "MDP-F202" and although it says P5 only it works just fine in DS, as you can see above.
