ok I posted yesterday about trying to remove part of an obj(the back of the head, and other parts to leave basically just the face minus eyes and teeth and all that good stuff) I was directed to a proggy ..anim8.. anyway. it has a cut edge thing. cool...I did a loop cut. BUT....now the heck to I remove the cut part. not only that but the bugger keeps crashing. There is no forum for this program here. and thought hopefully since this si going to be used in poser someone could help me. I am going nuts trying to remove parts so I can use just the face portion..HELLLLLPPP

Why not just use a transmap? Just start with the head template, make it all white, and black out the part you don't want seen. Apply that as a transparency map, set to 100%

because what I need to do it use the face part and build onto it for what I am doing. using a plain transmap wont help it. I need the actual face to be a seperate part

I am using just the head part of v3 right now. I just need to cut away all the part that is not directly her face...think like a porcelain mask. that is what part I need left.

Attached Link: http://www.uvmapper.com

In UVMapper pro you can select by material, then hit the delete key and its gone. Then use the lasso selection and delete the back of the head. 2 minutes :)

what are you actually trying to do with the face part?

DarkElegance posted Sat, 28 August 2004 at 3:35 PM

well for a piece I am working on making a few groteque masks. I need JUST the face part. using the pic PhilC used I can show you what part I need.(part in red is also what I need removed) I have been fighting with this since yesterday morning to remove the parts I dont need but anim8or keeps freezing when I do the loop cut. it wont allow me to remove the piece I actually cut off. once I get the face part seperate I can take it in anim8or and hopefuly "shell" it to give it some heft. from there I can do the rest of the building on to it to make the different parts...if this makes sence. as you can see I am not a modeler.

This is what i do (Poser Pro pack) Select the head -go to the "grooping tool" ( the "editing" tool bar) -create a new group (name it as you want) -click on "include material" and select the "Skin Face" material, the "Lips" material, and all you need (eye socket, etc chatever you want. -Each part selected becomes red Now click on the "Create a new prop" button, and that's it. You have your mask.

DarkElegance posted Sat, 28 August 2004 at 3:49 PM

ok I am doing it now. one I hit the creat prop...i named it. but..................nothing happened. if I save it now will the parts not in red be gone?

Close the group panel Now, You don't see anything changed cause the new prop is at the exact same place as the head. If you select the prop by the display window left/low menu, you can see it, move it, and export it in the format you like. hope it helps ;o)

Just thought of something.. you can apply V3 morphs first, and THEN follow this proceedure. That way you can make a number of different masks, with different "looks"

No problem with anim8or. Import the head Set the view to side view Maximize the view with the eye button Select point editing Take the knife, and make the cut (the new points will be white ones) Take the selector and select all the points you want to remove and push del.
