I was playing around with some ideas trying to fight Brycers Block. Ended up with this.... but it seems like it needs something.

I call it New Beginnings... a new volcano actually.

There are 2 terrains and 3301 spheres, 9,758,721 polygons.
Any comments or crits are more than welcome and appreciated.

needs a shock wave. er, large wave caused by eruption. Tsunami!!! The right side of the water seems to bright. Other than that it looks great.

I think the reflection needs to break up or fade a little bit the farther away it gets from the volcano. It looks a little "continual" to me.

Foam on the shoreline, steam from the water where the hot lava is under it, maybe big bubbles erupting into steam,,,etc, just MHO

How about a coconut floating by? A bit predictable, but probably fairly accurate for how stuff spread and started 'new beginnings', hinting at the fact that the new island will soon be a verdant paradise. Someone stop me, please..............

I would suggest something to indicate scale, something in the foreground that has recognizable size, like a coconut as mentioned or palm branch, to show that the island is tiny. I'm a geology nut, so I have to say that the volcano wouldn't be new, as it would have had to start at the ocean floor and build up. But the island could be new. Perhaps it's a depiction of Loihi in 50,000 years? (the next Hawaiian island, 900 meters below the surface right now) I like the reflection in the water. It looks fine to mee for a small island. Since it has solid rock already above the surface, it's not BRAND new, so would not really need huge waves. Oceanic volcanic eruptions are relatively mild, so there wouldn't be an accompanying earthquake. Has to to with the type of lava, and relates to why Kilauea has been erupting continuously and peacefully since 1983. The few earth-shaking eruptions in the ocean tend to make older islands smaller, not larger (Krakatoa). Yeah, I'm a nerd LOL
