This is MrsPhilC. Phil has gone to Florida to help with the disasters down there. I'm not certain when he will return, but we're sorry to have to miss your gathering. Maybe next time (barring hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, etc) we'll be able to meet with you all. JanC

Lemme see...I live in L.A....if I leave now...stop in Nebraska for beer and wieners...drive really fast...more beer and wieners in Chicago......drive faster...and even fasterer...beer...wieners......mustn't sleep...
Oh well, doesn't look do-able...carn-sarn-it!
If there are any L.A. Poser-People interested in a gathering, we should start a string.
BTW, I hitch-hiked through Ohio back in the 70's. Nice people, good rides, and beautiful scenery.
Have fun Ohioans!
Party game idea: Pin the Morph on Dork.

Garblesnix, Ha, I can spell you for driving. grin RC (palm springs) PS: Jan, my regards to you and your husband for his charity.

sixus1 posted Fri, 10 September 2004 at 3:23 PM

Sorry that you and Phil couldn't make it either. What he is doing is a good thing. :) Although....might be a moot point with Ivan coming so soon afterwards :( The town that I grew up in down in Florida got hit rather hard and it makes me think of all of the people that I knew and hope that they are all okay. ---- Yep, you should stop by some time Sandy :) --------------- And you people in CA, well....why would you ever even want to leave ?? ;) --Rebekah--

Why am I thinking I'm the only one that's going to show up? Too bad, I'm bringing free SturkWurk CD's too. Doug

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

garblesnix posted Fri, 10 September 2004 at 5:49 PM

"Too bad, I'm bringing free SturkWurk CD's too."

Ok, if I leave L.A. right now...sell blood along the way to pay for gas....how much can I get for a kidney?.....no wieners, just beer.....must have free cd's.....

....must find Poser 12-step program......

sturkwurk posted Fri, 10 September 2004 at 5:52 PM

The CD has every one of my past free files, along with ALL of my solo merchant files... so what's a Kidney? You've got two.

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

garblesnix posted Fri, 10 September 2004 at 6:01 PM

"so what's a Kidney? You've got two." ....don't need both arms, either...just the mouse one... ...legs......need only one to hop to the fridge for beer......is there a "get back to reality" morph on the cd?

FishNose posted Fri, 10 September 2004 at 6:32 PM

I recently moved to a small, desolate area outside of Youngstown. Will soon be moving to an even smaller, more desolate area outside of where I am now. PS: I thought everyone knew where Dean Martin was born? Guess not ;)

pokeydots posted Sun, 12 September 2004 at 3:32 PM

Aha! Youngstown, I have heard of it! Will have to look on the map to see exactly where it is though! Yeah, we have Dean Martin from Steubenville, and Clark Gabel from Cadiz! Which is only about 20 minutes away to either place from where I live :)

Yes, many people have heard of Youngstown. During the 60's Y-Town was 7th on Russia's "Cities to Bomb" list should we go to war. That was because of the vast amount of steel we used to produce.

But Youngstown is much more known for it's mob activites and control. It was once called "Murder City, USA" by Life Magazine. Wiring a bomb to a car's starter was known as a "Youngstown Tune-Up." And as recently as the late 90's our per-capita murder rate was one of the highest in the country. A mere 3 years ago, our Sheriff, Prosecutor and several judges went to prison for violations of the RICO act. And more recently, our Congressman (Jim Traficant) was sent to prison and sits there now. It's interesting to note that Traficant used to be our sheriff years ago and was charged by the FBI with RICO violations. He was tried in federal court in Cleveland and spit the hook. It is widely believed the judge was bought off. Either that or she was completely inept. He then ran for congress and won. He kept getting re-elected even though most everyone knew he was crooked. He stayed in congress for 16 years until the FBI got him again.

But because of the mill closings and the aforementioned convictions, Youngstown is now run by morons and thieves who have no mob connections. And the murders are now drug related instead of the other vices.

Things were much better under the mob. They only killed each other and, of course, the mills were open then, too. Youngstown is a place that saw its heyday in the 40's, 50's and 60's. It's not much more than a hole in the ground now. A place to be avoided at all costs.

PS: I forgot to mention...Pretty Boy Floyd was killed just outside Youngstown. Lowellville, I think.
