I am not sure about this pic. Does it work? What does it convey if anything? I am impressed by this forum and the work that is exhibited here. So straight from the shoulder please!

I see what you are trying to say. Neat idea. Somehow the bright sunny day outside does not contribute well. What was it like in the other direction; comming out of darkness?

ghostly, i like it... xcellent shot of the mine! technically, a little more attention on removing the white line around the miner's pants & side & you can use the burn tool to darken the shadow in front of his foot, or maybe ghosts don't cast shadows...

i like this a lot! I am very much into mine shots, although i find them to be quite difficult. It's a very expressive piece. The ghostly image of the miner has a big impact on me. i like the blue tones in the tracks. great work. i can't help too much with the technical aspect; i'm just a beginner. but i like what i see. :)

Dear Snowbain ...I only Shoot from the Hip! For Me it conveys..."finding One's way...and there is a Light, at the End of the Tunnel" ...and like Mining, it isn't easy, as I have been Underground in Boulder, near Kalgoolie, in Australia...only for a matter of Hours...as I became too agitated with the "confinement". As for the Technical Skill to use this "Software"...for "Soft Minds"...that were developed before, We even heard of Computers (apart from the Wanganui Police Computer)... I am not the One to "aid & abet"...I would just...confuse, though it was through the Forum, and the Patience of a few, that at last got Me to Produce a "Layer"... sigh...however if You ever need to Learn how to do a Copyright Symbol.... ... I am the One to ask. manly hugz

I think you need to work a bit more on the man. It's too obvious it's a cutout. Notice the white bits around the legs. Try upping the contrast on the man a bit, he looks a bit flat. Just some thoughts...

I would agree with Cindy on working on removing the outline there, I might have done the mine photo in black and white to give it a more eerie old time feel, not that it isn't eerie enough as is. A wonderful concept! :)

Thank you all for the comments, much appreciated. I am a little surprised on the criicism of the coloured daylight area. My concept was trying to show present mine enviroment (colour), with a suggestion of days gone by (sepia). By having the scene in b&w, or the miner apearing out of a black background, I felt would just make it an ordinary interior mining pic. Oh well, back to the drawing board! Disappointing after all the trouble of finding authentic helmet with mounted, original brass acetylene lamp and a very rare Davis Safety lamp which is being carried by the extremely high priced, miner stand-in. Thats the breaks I 'spose.

No more comments about the work itself... I agree with Misha "You are the ultimate judge of your own work. " Each of us has to define his own style and despite everybody to develop our own way of seing things... Still, when it comes of technicall skills, an opinion that comes from an artist(or someone with better knowledges in that area) is always valuable and even if it must be considerate just as an opinion, you have to read between the lines and see what really could help you to improve your work...Respecfully, Mihai.
