I've seen a few posted here, but quite infrequently. PhilC had a bandsman's uniform, which probably wouldn't work (though the hat might..;) there might be some sabres out there, but most of the Napoleonic era stuff is different things (I made a Napoleonic cannon model, if you're interested..;) stay tuned for more coherent answers..;)

"Noggin" has a british naval uniform, here in the marketplace.

For the War of 1812, British and Canadian troops wore pretty much the same as in Europe. There was a change in progress, and you'd have to check what was correct for a particular unit. Most obviously, the shako changed to the "Belgic" type, worn by troops at Waterloo. I'm not so well up on US troops, but if you're not getting too close, some non-US figure might pass with the correct uniform colour. Osprey Publications are one of the first places to look to find a starting guide to uniforms.

I do believe the US didn't have a lot of actual "official" troops while Great Britain did. In some cases, such as the Battle of New Orleans, the US side consisted of whomever could be persuaded to fight the British. Andrew (Old Hickory) Jackson persuaded a rag-tag bunch of people to fight in the Battle of New Orleans. The US combatants consisted of Kentucky riflemen, "native american" indians, US citizens, etc etc. I did some digging for War of 1812 uniforms, and got a bit dizzy. But this link may be a good starting point. You can actually buy reproductions of uniforms at this site,

The best Uniform reference I have found so far is
Uniforms of the World
by Richard Knotel, Herbert Knotel, and Herbert Sieg
It has black and white pics of uniforms from the 1600s to just before WW2, for just about every nation, army, navy and airforce.

I wouldn't find any value in Black and White pictures, since they obviously don't show you the colors.
