So I have ancient photoshop 5.5 and wasn't planning to get a new version because it is like 700 bucks. But I was informed somewhere (nevermind about this post if I'm wrong) that as long as I have the liscence I can get the next version for like 50 bucks. If that is true, then I'm definetly planning to get photoshop 7 or photoshop CS. I haven't really looked at the photoshop website yet (I'm sure you guys will give me better answers anywas), but all I really know is that CS is a lot different than 7 and 5.5. It isn't just an upgrade with more features. It is re-formated. I, who doesn't really like change in my computer stuff (for example switching to GIMP or to LINUX), am worried about getting it and not liking how it is set up. I love how photoshop 5.5 is set up and I'm so used to where everything is. So my question is, which do you prefer? Why? What are the pros and cons for each? Does CS have more features than 7? If it does, than it is either, more features and same format, or lots more features but different format. Is it really worth switching formats (especially if you really like the 5.5 one) for all of the extra features? Thanks in advance.

By the way, you can NOT get the next version for 50 bucks. You can only download a program for 50 bucks if you already have a license for it. It is mostly scam/spam, but you will find this information in the fine print they have to put somewhere. They tell you that it is some kind of handy backup afterwards. But in their mails it sounds like you only have to pay that little money. It is illegal if you 'buy' a backup from a program you do not have a license to (and the license you have is for 5.5). Sorry...

Yeah I asked my dad about this a couple hours later... damn that sucks. Well 5.5 is still pretty good but it doesn't have stuff like the liquify and some other cool stuff. I can deal with it though :-P

You can buy an upgrade for about 150-160 dollars if you shop around properly. I upgraded from 4.0 to 7.0 a while ago, and I think the CS upgrade goes down to 5.5 for upgrading purposes (you should check before buying). - Noel

I don't actually find any substantial improvements that I need in CS. But that's the determining factor. What do you NEED, and does 7 or CS provide those things?
