Hi,

I just received my Vue 5 upgrade and thought I would share my first thoughts running on a Mac..

First if you are wondering what is in the upgrade package, it is the same as the retail except no Box. The manual, 2 Cd's (Hybrid Mac and PC versions), Reg card with Vue5 Serial number and ads are all included. Likely it is the serial number that differentiates an upgrade from a full version..

As I learn more I will post more thoughts on the upgrade.

Installation
I had no problem with a typical install, everything went smooth. However I wanted to install all the sample files from the Extras CD so I did a custom install, which installs everything. During the install you are asked for the Extras disc. Everything went fine until I got to the Samples 3/z03_jealousy.vue file. This file caused a read error from the disc and aborted the install. I tried copying it from two other drives, including a PoweBook G4 and a G5, directly from the finder and recieved an error there too. Perhaps it is just a bad disc. I left a message for e-on and will report back when I get an answer. No big deal, standard install works fine...

Launch Vue 5

So far so good, everything looks good and the OpenGL preview is vastly superior to the previous OpenGL implementation that seemed a little quirky. You get much more detail in the windows and increased speed to boot! You even see details such as lens flare and textures, excellent improvement!

I rendered a sample scene with a terrain and the standard canyon material and it rendered faster and looked better then the equivalent Vue 4 scene. Very nice. I will be having more fun with this later, and when I get more details I will add to this thread.

One funny bug I found was in the attached picture. Hehe The Application menu says About Vue 4 Professional when it should say About Vue 5 Esprit. hehe Someone missed that one!

Any other Mac users notice any of these?

More to come....

Regards,

Paul
