Actor and stem cell activist Christopher Reeves passed away at age 52 from heart failure. He had been paralyzed since 1995 from a fall while horseback riding. He was best known for his roll as Superman. Its an awful shame that such a talent and force should be taken so young. He did so believe that he would be able to walk again in the near future through the help of research.

The news saddened me as well! I hoped he would live to realize his dream of walking again.

I only wish the stem cell research had begun sooner, so that we would have been able to help such a one.

Sad news indeed. The guy had a true courage that everyone should admire. I definitely did.

He was a wonderful person, right up to the end he was doing so much for other people. Hopefully his involvement in the causes he championed helped him through the last nine years.

In describing my disability to others, I've often joked, "I'm just like Christopher Reeve, only better looking." (I'm also in an electric wheelchair and require a ventilator to breathe.) While I disagreed with Reeve on stem cell issues (I feel there's greater promise in adult stem cell research) I applaud the fact that he brought many disability issues into the limelight.
