Looks really really cool. Too bad it's sold for 700 bucks =(sackrat posted Tue, 19 October 2004 at 11:03 PM
Yeah, me too,............I notice there's no downloadable trial,............these folks must be pretty sure of themselves. Still,.........looks nice.

Yep, price really sux, big time, start saving your bucks, now ! :P It is nice software, but there is no place for average user in their mind...They must have been on crack or something, when they were thinkering price for it !!! :) I would rather buy C4D R9 with advanced renderer included... :)

wow AS what's the polycount on that one? :O 30million? :P I wish I could afford ZBrush and a package of digital drawing talent to go with it :P

Wow - thanks Drac. What's really impressed me is that the authors are the original Lightwave team (that's why they're so sure of them selves!), it's OS -nogstic and for the price you get both both Mac and PC. Looks very much like something Doc Mojo/Pandromeda would create if they were doing modelers. Best; DanDoublecrash posted Wed, 20 October 2004 at 12:14 PM
I've heard incredible things about Modo. And, AgentS, in last months one just had to consider SoftImage XSI Foundation sold at 495$ plus training. I dloaded the trial version (30 days full functional), and it's really awesome. Offers almost everything you can think to need when modeling or rendering or animating. S.

Is that bumpmapped AS? Agh...holy crap. That's amazing...makes anything i've ever modelled look like donkey poo.
AgentSmith posted Wed, 20 October 2004 at 10:40 PM
No, no bump map, that's actual modeling. The thing with ZBrush 2 is you create a highly detailed model, and then it can spit out a low poly version with normal and/or displacement maps that will end up making the low poly look like the high poly in another 3D program. (that supports normal and/or displacement maps) Our staff member, EricofSD bought the $495 SoftImage XSI, while were were at Siggraph this year. I'm strongly considering getting Zbrush 2.0, as my next purchase. AS

I love displacements, but they are part of the render system - like bump maps. But unlike Bump maps they aren't usually exportable. If I can't get it into Bryce it's not much use to me :-) Also be aware that all apps like ZBrush that use the REYES render system (this includes Mojoworld and Poser 5), displacements can cause holes in the mesh when rendered - especailly if the camera is too close. Best; Dan
Rayraz posted Thu, 21 October 2004 at 10:16 AM
Yea, this hole thing can appear in Mojoworld with some settings, I've had that happen myself, but it's got a handy feature against it called "redo blocks" (I think that's the name) it'll re-render the area's with holes and fix them :) a very cool feature that is.

Oooo...nice to know, I'm going to try and convince DAZ to have B6 have displacement/normal map support. Zbrushes displacemnt maps are 16-bit grayscale images (probably tifs). Yet another thing I want B6 to have, in and out 16-bit grayscale, and 48-bit color support. AS

Wow, AS, normal maps are way cool, to bad B5 cannot do that !!! :(
AgentSmith posted Fri, 22 October 2004 at 4:10 AM
It would be nice if we could get B6 to do this. I've seen demonstrations of programs that could accept displacement maps; They would take a flat plane, apply what would LOOK like a mountain terrain map to it (the displacement map), and it would displace the geometry of the the flat plane into a mountain. (Which yes, is how we make terrains in Bryce.) Only the scene with the "displaced" flat plane/terrain would still really only have...1 polygon. And, the displacement maps can be UVMapped. (as in the Rhino above) You see why I want it. AS

a.s. get them too include a structured 2d image (a.i for example)file format as displacement map as this works easier in the gradient department
AgentSmith posted Mon, 25 October 2004 at 3:43 AM
Hmmmm....explain, I don't use Illustrator. Well, I understand, but how does a gradient from AI differ from a gradient from Photoshop? AS

I think ysvry means to generate displacements as vectors rather then basing them on pixelbased heightmaps, in order to completely remove any blockyness that might appear with pixelbased heightmaps.
