Hi, I'm just starting out at this and now I feel even more silly because everything I seem to download is zipped up in winrar. This is a new thing for me and when I double click on the file, everything opens and I don't know how to work it to put it in pose5 in the proper place. Somewhere I seen there is a program you can get here at this site that works with winrar and directs everything to where it is supose to go ? Is this true? If so what's the program called ? And if no.... can someone please tell me what to do with winrar to install everything in the right place please ? Thank you. Sorry for bothering you. SuzieC

Poser stuff is usually delivered in one of two formats: DAZ3D uses "exe" installers which install when you double-click on the item. The installers generally aim themselves at the default Poser location, in Program files. The second method of providing Poser files is in zip format. You'd use a zip program to handle them. So I don't know where you got the stuff that uses the RAR format. You can use WinRAR to handle RAR files. One place to get the program is Tucows.SuzieC posted Fri, 22 October 2004 at 10:26 PM
Thank you. I have winrar, and when I double click on it a window opens with that folder in it with alot of other folders in that and I don't know where to direct them to. Or how to get them to do in their right directory folders. I was told there was a program on this site under utilities that was used with winrar to direct all the files to the proper place? I've downloaded things from the net and other places and it's either exe installer and a winrar zip format, I don't know where to tell or what to tell it where to put everything. Got any suggestions? I'm at a loss here. thank you. SuzieC

WinRAR & Zip are two entirely different programs. To my knowledge, no online store offers Poser stuff in WinRAR format.
There is no guarantee or easy way to tell you how to "decompress" such files. You could try pointing the program to your Poser folder. Or you could create a temporary folder, then decompress the stuff there, and see where it would go.

I actually use WinRAR. I aqcuired it after many of the NWN (Neverwinter Nights) files came in that Format. The interface is not that much different from Window Explorer. In the file list, Double click on the File you wish to expand. This will bring you to a window that lists the files within the Zip. Above this window is a button that looks like a File folder names "Extract." You will want to click on this button. Now a new window will popup with a directory List. From here you will chose the directory in which you wish to install things, typically your Poser root directory. Tell it Ok and you are done. Now a little trick with WINRAR is that once you install a file once, the Program saves the last 10 locations you installed to. So if you go to install again, all you have to do is use the pull-down menu to chose your location rather than going through the file list. Let me know if you need further help with this.

This works especially well if the Download is setup to automatically drop the files where they belong. Most of the sites out there require their merchants to set up their files in this manner. Poserworld recently started requiring it, but a lot of their older files need to be manual installed. Their Readme file tells you exactly where to set the files. Try to expand these files in a blank folder somewhere, I personally use the Download folder in you Poser Root Directory.

I never use the Poser 5 downloads folder. I'd been using my own system before I got Poser 5. Heck, I don't install any new content directly into Poser 5. Instead, I use external Runtimes.

lol ~~ ok, now your getting over my head ! haha! And that is?

External runtimes is where you install content to a location on your computer other than the Poser Root directory. It helps in allowing you to organize your stuff as well as cutting down on load time for Poser. I would recommend waiting until you are more familar with the program before Moving files. There are tutorials for this.
