Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 28 9:33 pm)
That's incredibly weird. I have a Blaster Platinum and I have never encountered any problems with Poser from it. Glad to know yours is working fine now, though.

Your computer is a pretty complex device. Basically, one rule of thumb has never failed me:
Always keep your software and hardware up-to-date. That includes the latest version of your drivers, latest version of Internet Explorer, etc. You wouldn't think Internet Explorer would have anything to do with Poser, but it does. For some reason many programs have a hook into Internet Explorer.
I've had a SoundBlaster Live for a few years. I just use the drivers that Windows XP installs. I never do anything fancy with the card, and I don't have any problems.
It was a good idea to get the more powerful power supply and the extra fans. Too many of us neglect that stuff, and regret it later. Poser taxes your CPU to the max, and you need to keep it cool.

"It was a good idea to get the more powerful power supply and the extra fans. Too many of us neglect that stuff, and regret it later." Yup, been there, done that. Needed a new HD after that little episode.

I went through 2-3 hard drives because of our lousy electrical wiring in the house. Turn on the microwave, the circuit breaker trips, and there goes the darned computer again. I finally got a UPS, moved my computer downstairs, plugged into a different circuit. Then the wife finally got a less powerful microwave.

I posted a couple of messages about how Poser kept crashing on my PC... I think it's fixed... just been running P4 for well over an hour... rock solid and renders in seconds... Following suggestions from this forum the shop changed my graphic card and mother board, put 1G memory in, put a new, huge PSU in, put bigger and better fans in... we also reinstalled XP... but guess what we think the problem was...?? The drivers and software for my Soundblaster live platinum sound card were freaking things out!... the PC now runs like a dream and seems more 'solid' with a reassuring hum from the fans... I'm now looking forward to getting back to doing some serious rendering... I thank everybody who offered hints and suggestions.... Bob
