OMG!!! guess what I just found was newly installed on all the schools pc's!! 3DS MAX 6!!!! AAAH!!!! is all hyper I can now toy around in 3DSMAX! :D for free!! without needing an illegal download to get it free :P So far I toyed around in it for like 3 hours, and I managed to build the front end of a car already! at first the program seems very intimidating and the interface is kinda confusing with them tons and tons of icons, but as you go you'll find it makes a lotta sense :D I'm currently teaching myself some nurbs modelling for starters and it's going great so far! :D My teacher, who uses 3DSMAX himself thought I already worked with the program before :P lol, when I told him I actually only had 3 hours experience of which only one hour worth of nurbs modelling and that that was my first nurbs model he was pretty impressed! :D I think I know where I'll be spending my money on if I ever end up haveing a spare $4000... lol

Looks as if you are a student. . . . .Educational discounts can be applied. . . .It makes things a little more resonable.

Max is such a cool program, I'm still on 3.1 :( I'd love to have the cash for a newer version especially now that mental ray is included.

Toolset: Blender, GIMP, Indigo Render, LuxRender, TopMod, Knotplot, Ivy Gen, Plant Studio.

pakled; I got corel draw 9 plus corel wordperfect and several other corel packages all together for $50 with educational license. Only thing I ended up using was corel wordperfect. the rest was total crap. nuski; wow, that's some significantly lower pricetag! too bad it's still $600 above my budget at the moment :P but I can toy with 3dsmax for hours at school so I'll live :P pog; thanx. I've installed it :) I'll have a look at it when I rebooted and my comp is working straight again :P (yay windows!) Cog; The renderer is most certainly the most confusing part of 3DSMAX I've encountered so far. I make like, a cool mat in the mat editor, apply it to my model, and it doesn't look AT ALL the same on the model as it did in the material editor when I render it :|

I'm saving for the academic version of XSI :) Also, I apparently have access to Maya and Lightwave in one of the computerlabs--I just need to figure out which one.... Yeah, sometimes being a student is nice. Other times, like when you're shelling out $400 for books or when your tuition goes up 4 times in one year, it's a pain in the ***.

Rayraz posted Fri, 29 October 2004 at 4:24 PM

ugh yea I know that prob! the books are such a pain!! and even worse is that we have to buy these expensive books, use for 2 months and then never look at them anymore.
