This is a tree I've been working on since the end of August. There is a particular look that I personally wanted in a Christmas tree and I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for in our community, despite the many nice products and offerings out there. In light of that, I chose to create just what I envisioned. I hope you like it. The garland is a poseable figure in 10 link segments and 15 of them are wrapped around the tree. Pose files to wrap the segments around the tree and a predecorated tree cr2 are also included. The string of lights is also poseable in 30 link strands and 3 strands are wrapped around the tree. It also has poses to wrap it about the tree. There are 5 easy pose cr2s for the garlands and 5 easy pose cr2s for the lights. This is to allow up to 5 easy pose figures of the same figure in a scene w/o the worry of cross talk for P4 and PP. There is also a non-easy pose version of each. The lights and garlands, naturally, can be used on other things, which was the idea, that and scenes of people in the process of decorating the tree. There are premade grouped versions of the ornaments that are smart propped to the tree and individual versions for any further decorating you might want to do, or for sprucing up the scene around the tree, or for decorating the tree your way from scratch. A lot of work went into this package and it's not quite finished. It still needs a tree skirt, but that's in the finishing stages. I hope to release it very soon. Special thanks to Will Duprfor further refining the tree and to Davorama for easy posing the garlands and lights. Below is the ProPack/Poser4 version of the tree. Next post will show the P5 version.

and here is the P5 version of the tree.

Same lighting on both pictures, forgot to mention that. First rendered in Poser ProPack and the second in Poser 5.

This is quite the loveliest 3D Christmas tree I've seen :) I like the top pic best and as I use P5, I'm wondering if I'd get the same effect using the P4 renderer. If you try it could you let me know here please? Thanks, ali x

Actually, Lilybelles, after some of my testers got a look at the tree and my work around for P5's cruelty to transmapped figures, one of them pointed me to an example of using math functions in P5. I fiddled around, trying different math functions in different ways, not quite the way I was shown, because it didn't work for the tree the way it worked for the hair example, and this was the result. I'm much pleased. What do you all think? Same lighting as before. I think this is what the P5 version of the tree will end up looking like. My new friend in P5 = math functions. :-D

Ooooh! I can see scenes where the cat and mouse are helping to decorate! A lot of nice detail work. :)

so very pretty

mabfairyqueen posted Fri, 05 November 2004 at 10:31 AM

Thanks all. :) The tree is about ready to submit to Daz, which is where it will likely be going up. I just finished the tree skirt. Barring any problems that testers might find, it should be ready to go. Here is the tree with tree skirt, same lighting as before in P5.

mabfairyqueen posted Fri, 05 November 2004 at 10:38 AM

I was testing to see how the PP/P4 version of the tree looked in icky default PP/P4 lighting. I usually like to make sure things I make look decent in even bad lighting. Here is the result.

ziggie posted Fri, 05 November 2004 at 10:51 AM

Must be my eyes... but I like the icky lighting one bestest :-) It has more depth to the shadows and makes the branches look more dense and looks kinda more real. I think it would look great like that in a darkish room setting with the bulb brightness turned up and some post worked glow on them :-) Well... that's what I will do... LOL Looking forward to seeing it on sale. Gotta have... gotta have... :-)
