All that hard work you put into her has really paid off! She is beautiful! :))

Very well done. Reminds me of the delicate, porcelain doll look of the Twelve Girls band (were they an inspiration for the creation of Xie?) It's in my shopping cart over at PoserPros

blushes Thanks a lot. Actually, Xie's primary inspiration was a character by the same name I play on a MUSH. I wanted to do some portrait work of her, started messing with Poser, and one of my friends INSISTED that I sell the finished work, so I spent a month or so refining and retuning everything. Thanks for all the positive feedback! :)

The only lady who comes across as this realistically Asian-- as opposed to Eurasian-- is Bat's lovely Promo Girl and she's for V3. The work you have put into this really shows-- the prom shots at PPros are even clearer in how very Chinese this lady looks. Plus, as a dedicated SP3 fan, thank you for a fabulous new Steph beauty. By the way, that blink inj-- I use partial blinks alot, is it for that or for a completely or near completely closed eye? Emily
AlleyKatArt posted Sun, 21 November 2004 at 8:23 PM
Emily, the blink morph simply alters the shape of the eye in such a fashion that when Xie's eyes are closed, her eyelid and eyelashes don't look freaky. It has a dial down near the bottom, when you inject it, and you can adjust the settings for whatever blink value you want. To make Xie's blink 'perfect' I use blink 1.0 and wince .5 so that the eyelid completely meets. blink .5 and wince .25 would also work with XieBlink at .5. Really, you only /need/ the blink morph when Xie's eyes are completely or nearly closed.

And yeah, I'm a huge S3 and David fan, myself and find myself frequently wishing they had more support. Which is not to say that I'm not a big V3 fan, I just prefer S3's build, as it's less... less bathing beauty and more real woman. Plus, S3's just got some better morphs in some cases than V3. I'm also one of those people who just gets irritated when I see yet another V3/S3 character that looks like a white girl with /yellow/ skin or is 'black' and doesn't have the correct mapwork done on the hands and feet. Different ethnicities really are shaped and built different than caucasians tend to be, at least in the facial region.

I was looking at this over at PoserPros. Very nice! Are there P5 MAT files?
AlleyKatArt posted Mon, 22 November 2004 at 11:48 PM
Sorry, Randy, even though I have and use P5, I haven't gotten the hang of doing anything with the P5 material room beyond some very, very basic stuff. If you could give me some suggestions on tutorials that help to better explain it, I'm always trying to learn new things, and might be able to update some MAT files for her at a later date. :)

I wondered because in some of the images her skin looks shiny, as if skin shader nodes or a specular map was being used. But I'm not asking for fancy Material Room stuff. I'd be content if the bump maps are connected in the right place.
AlleyKatArt posted Tue, 23 November 2004 at 6:53 AM
I created her in P5, though, so that could be why her skin occasionally looks shiney.
This image is postworked, a bit, mostly for lighting correction and to add the fire engine red lipstick. Someone challenged me to make Xie look... fetishy.

Randy, that's the plan. I've already got a start on him, and this time I'm going to try and avoid David's morphs completely so that even those with just the base figure can enjoy him. Randy, I absolutely love seeing my creations come to life in artwork. Be sure to message me if you do any pictures with her? :D

I made a P5 MAT file for Xie. You can download it here.
Of course, you can use it on any character. Aiko models it above.
I recommend this tutorial as an intro P5 materials, at least as applied to human skin.
