Well, I assume thats has to be using the Spiral preset in the Spline Modeler. Start with a circle cross section. Then use the Spiral preset. Play with the spiral settings to get the proper effect. You might have to take it to the vertex modeler next to "Tweak" it around a little. Clint

Additional thought: I'd think carefully first about how close to camera this rope will be used. If it's not going to be in extreme close up, I'd opt for letting most of the look of it come from a good bump texture and not stress too much over the actual geometry.

I usually make a cross section of three intersecting circles, and spiral that. That's how a rope looks, anyway.
