As Poser 5 came out there was a pretty excited discussion here about the pros and contras of Poser 5. I'm still using Poser 4 but I think about buying Poser 5. So I wonder how Poser 5 is doing now? Is it stable and has it really that much advantages in comparison to Poser 4? Is it worth the money or is it maybe better to buy the Poser 4 Pro Packe. What do you guys think? cheers Andy

I have to confess, my total lack of self control during rDNA's recent sale has forced me to give Poser 5 another shot (it's 3rd actually).

So far so good, particularly the ability to use multiple runtimes. And rDNA and PoserPros have excellent P5 specific forums should you decide to go for it.

I've never had a need to look back once I got Poser 5. I've never had a single problem with Poser 5 and I got it soon after the release.

I've been using Poser 4 Pro pack for a long time now and I never felt the need to upgrade to 5 yet; I was hesitant because a couple of artist said that Poser 5 has a steeper learning curve than 4 does; I'll probably have to go to 5 if all the merchants start saying "system requirements: Poser 5".

I wish I had not listened to the Poser 5 naysayers as long as I did.

majikart it is usually only the textures that are different with poser 5 stuff, It can still be used in p4 and propack.

I don't know where people get this "Steeper learning curve" thing. I'm willing to bet most of us only use the main "Pose" room, and the Materials Room for setting up textures. With that in mind, Poser 5 works pretty much like Poser 4. Except it does have lots of important new features, and just plain looks better. And no BUM bump maps!

The 2 are worlds apart. P5 with its upgrades is very stable. There is a learning curve but if you are really into it, you'll never have so much fun learning...

I never used anything prior to buying P5 so I couldn't say about comparisons with P4 but I can say about the fact that I was running with it after a couple of hours of playing and started posting a few weeks later in the beginners section. I like to think I'm learnt a lot in the 12 months os so that I've had it now but as the saying goes "I learn something new every day"! It's bloody good fun :-)

I was running both P4 and P5 at the same time but I have finally abandoned P4. The bonus about being able to use different runtimes is you can set up a new runtime just for V2 and her clothes and one for V3 etc so you needn't ever have to remember if a particular item is going to fit that character. You just have to be vigilant when installing the characters. Aside from that the rendering capabilities are just so different. P5 will please whether you are are really enthusiastic and want to experiment with shader nodes etc or whether you just want to add a few lights as usual. It's all about what you want from it. Using both, P4 started to feel old but I was used to it. I had the same issue with Windows 3.11 :0)
