Picture in your mind a picture of an angel. Classic style angel picture. Now, how on earth would a person manage to create the rays of light that seem to descend towards an angel in every classical angel picture? Could this even be done in Poser or is it a situation where postwork would be effective or maybe import to another program? Kristta

Poser 5 has an "atmosphere" feature that simulates volumetric lighting; I used it to very good effect in this paladin render. In P4 or Pro Pack, you could make use of transmapped props to simulate the effect.
nerd has a couple of tutorials at his website that explain both techniques.

Man! and here I thought this thread would be about Master Chief. (Sorry, Just bought an Xbox)
The Atmosphere node should work, but it will take FOREVER to render. Experiment with your light and atmosphere settings without your character in the scene. IIRC you need to have a backdrop (like the single sided square) behind your light cone.
If you have photoshop or equivelent, I'd just draw The light cone on a seperate layer. If ya wanna get fancy you could have a slightly transparent Light layer below yor angel's layer and a very transparent one on top. You can play with things like Gradient fill to make it cooler.
If you have $800 burning a hole in your pocket get Bauhauss mirage, it does a brilliant job of quickly simulating volumetrics in 2d, and can even be animated. (Makes a good alternative to photoshop once you get used to how to do stuff.)

Thank you all so much for the advice. I played around with my image tonight and came up with something that I just truly love. I consider it to be my best. I know a woman that is severely disabled and she collects angels. She wasn't supposed to live for very long after she was born and she will turn 40 next year. I decided to create a pretty angel for her as a Christmas gift and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Thank you all again. I'm off to find the perfect frame for this image! Kristta PS I'm considering entering this in the Christmas contest here at Renderosity. Considering, not sure yet.
