Right now I can't afford Photoshop so I'm using GIMP. My question is this, is there anyway to convert the brushes used in Photoshop into the format used by GIMP? I can create my own, but there are so many out there that I want, but they aren't in GIH format, and if I try to open them in GIMP, they don't look right. So, is there a way to do this, a tutorial, convertor, something?

There is a utility named abr2gbr.exe which will convert photoshop brushes BUT it does not work for anything but the type1 brushes. that said, Can anyone answer the question :- will Photoshop Elements 2 or 3 use custom brushes made for Photoshop 6,7,or CS

Ok, what is a type one brush and are there any free ones around here?

I have not got a clue to Photoshop brush types. The conversion program just puts up an error saying (paraphrase: cant convert type x file, only type 1) There are Photoshop brush sets in the Freebie section and the marketplace.

I have Photoshop Elements 2.0 and I have been able to use some PS brushes. I think the PS CS version I've not been able to use. I also think PS 7.0 is the highest form of brushes I've been able to use in Elements. I'm wondering if Elements 3.0 can use CS brushes? Hope that helps.

I have Elements 3 and just today tried out some photoshop custom brushes from the marketplace, and they work fine.
